mayoraaseiErm, as the second part of the addendum I was supposed to make yesterday, but forgot about...
I think I understand the attitude of Alessan's mother now, more or less, but her proposition I still can't.
She seemed to suggest that Alessan should just concentrate on Tigana without extorting help from the other states of Palm. It is a matter of fierce pride, but I don't believe that the woman isn't capable of rationality.
Tigana can't stand alone.
If it could it wouldn't have fallen in the first place.
Would she rather that Tigana remain forgotten and oppressed while Corte and Tregea and all those other states flourished (as best they could)? Would she rather sacrifice all of Tigana than to lower it to the same level as the rest of Palm?
If that is what she wanted, why is Alessan a coward? She doesn't seem opposed to the idea of reviving Tigana, only the involvement of Palm.
...But Tigana can't stand up alone >__>; If it couldn't at the height of its strength, 20 years ago, there's no way it can now, broken...and forgotten by the younger generations.

...It bothers me that while her son runs around Palm trying to, well, in her perspective, play hero, she loiters in her little temple....and she's Queen. ...Or princess consort or whatever. Instead of bravely shouldering the responsibility and burden like the fifteen year old Alessan did, she allowed herself to become consumed by her grief and hatred.

(* On a side note, I believe Alessan inherited a lot of Valentin's traits, includin the irritating fortune of "being good at everything".)
