mayoraaseiNobuta wo Produce and Hana Yori Dango both ended this week, and thus ended the autumn season of Japanese dramas.
For some strange reason, I'm relieved. The ending to Nobuta was changed a lot, almost certainly to accomodate wishes of the fans.
No matter how loveable the interaction between Akira and Shuuji was, I'm still glad to see Kame out of Shuuji's role.
Because I don't like Shuuji.
There, I've said it.
Now give me a few moments while I go and hide somewhere unreachable ^^;
Kame has gone through 3 very different roles in the past year - the reticent but sharp-tongued Odagiri Ryuu in Gokusen, the affably childish Kindaichi Hajime in Kindaichi and finally, Kiritani Shuuji. Of the three, Shuuji ranks a distant last. In fact, I dare say if that it wasn't Kame in the role, I wouldn't have liked Shuuji at all.
Something about his attitude really bothers me. It's that hypocritical arrogance he holds towards the world, the "everything is a game, everyone is a kid except me". Ultimately, he is the one that was forced to mature the most throughout the series. Ultimately, he is the most childish of them all.
It makes for more realistic viewing, I suppose, but it has the same uncomfortable feeling as the first book of Bridget Jones gave me - watching the main character embarrass themselves (though not in the same way and certainly not to the same extent) and having his mask stripped away layer by layer, until he realised that the real him was so small...and so seemingly insignificant. Shuuji is also a character I have trouble sympathising with.
Maybe it's a legacy from Gundam Seed Destiny...I am now so very adverse to identifying with precocious teenage boys. *Sigh*
