Today is Thanksgiving
25 Nov 2005 01:42 pmWell, yesterday, technically, but it's still Thursday in America. Parts of it.
So I would like to take this opportunity to thank God/gods/fate/coincidence/whatever for the life I have now, and to thank all the people I've met or talked to for enriching my life. You've all helped make me who I am, and for that I am grateful.
Remember that quote I had up a few weeks ago? There are 6.5 billion people in the world. Meeting, liking and keeping in touch with any one person is close to a miracle. In a different leg of the trouser of time (© Terry Pratchett), we might have walked by and never remembered each other's existence. I may not have been born in China, I may not have come to Australia, I may not have been to the schools I went to. I may have been born a year later and seen an entirely different personal world.
In the entire world, nearly two people die each second. In Australia, one person dies approximately every 4 minutes. It might have been you or I. So let's cherish the present while time still lets us.
And what better to end a sappy post with a sappy song? XD
This song always strikes me as a song from a friend to a friend. It doesn't promise that we would stay together always, it doesn't nostalgically lament the prospect of future farewells. It says that even when everything is dark there is someone who still prays for you to be strong. Please read it ^^
I hope you dance (Lee Ann Womack)
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking
Loving might be a mistake but it's worth making
Don't let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
If you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
Don't worry, this sentimentality is probably a one off thing
