mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Athrun)

Disclaimer: Since this is approaching the pivot point of the series (if GSeed was any indication), I do not recommend reading this if you do not want to be spoiled. Applies particularly to 32

Without further ado, let's get on with it:

(30)
Minerva has determined that Saviour and the Warrior (Lunamaria's MS) have sustained damages beyond repair. Lunamaria is recovering in the infirmary. On Archangel, the gathered Orb soliders want to join with their cause, there's mutual apology and much tear-shedding between the soldiers and Cagalli.

Kira tries to diplomatically point out that AA doesn't know if fighting is the right thing to do or not, since all sides have done that already and it's only making the warfare worse. The Orb soldiers reply that they do not seek revenge, but simply because to defend Orb's ideals.

More scenes with Shinn watching over an ever-weakening Stellar. Now that I found out that Stellar's voice is done by Fllay's voice...her lines of "Shinn...you said you would protect me..." is really echoing somewhere...

Lunamaria sees the severely damaged Saviour and goes around asking people how Athrun is doing. Shinn replies that he's probably moping in his room after getting beaten up by Freedom (*aww, for the first time, I'm giving a thumbs up to Shinn).

Shinn overhears Talia speaking with the doctor about how they would like to "hand over a live specimen of an Extended to the High Council" (referring to Stellar).

Athrun goes out into the nice sunset and starts moping (cue flashbacks). Shinn happens upon him and disgruntledly remarks that Athrun is moping here instead of his room. He then hands Athrun a lecture about how he should get a grip on himself and do something useful for once (*go Shinn!!)

Late that night, Shinn breaks into the infirmary and rolls Stellar's bed out of the infirmary (*how bloody conspicuous can you get?) Rey helps Shinn past the guards, and he asks Shinn if he would come back (*remember when Kira returned Lacus to Athrun, Ssigh had asked the same thing of Kira). Rey opens the gate for Shinn, and Shinn and Stellar leaves in Impulse.

Rey is brought to the Captain's quarters, and Talia dismisses Athrun as though he were a common soldier (*hmm....) Rey says that Shinn would return and Talia asks what he means and if it was an order from "that man" too (*hmmmmm...is she referring to Dullindal?) Rey replies that it was at his own discretion.

Impulse broadcast (or something) Gaia's signal, and tells the EA when they made contact with him that he is returning Stellar to Neo. Neo decides to launch in his Windam (EA's MS).

The two of them meet, and Shinn yells that he's returning Stellar because he does not want her to die, and that Neo must swear to return her to a world free of war and MS. Neo replies that he promises it. Shinn hands Stellar the shell that she gave him and tells her not to forget him. Then he breaks away into his MS in tears (*recall Kira and his teary episode after Lacus and Athrun left ==;).

Comments: I'm going to keep this one brief because there's 2 more episodes to be watched ==; But this is the episode when I first and finally began to sympathise with Shinn. I agree with his decision even if it's so obviously in breach of military regulations. I don't think I would have been able to bear the thought of someone I cared about being taken away and used as a guinea pig. I can sympathise with his wish to protect Stellar, I think it ties in with his regret and grief of the loss of his family, and probably his own involvement in war. Okay, onwards!

I'll start this one off by saying..........ugh, Shinn looks like Kamui *shudders*

Shinn is brought before the captain. He says that no one treated Stellar like a human being, and that in terms of kindness, ZAFT wasn't much better off than EA. Talia repeats that since they had orders, it was foolish of him to disobey out of personal feelings. After Shinn is taken away, Talia slams her desk in anger (*wth?)

Shinn and Rey have a cosy little conversation that will be the cause of 200 new yaoi fics.

Athrun visits Shinn and tries very tactfully to point out that what Shinn did will probably lead to Stellar having to return to the battlefield again. Shinn gets extremely pissed off at his accusation and defends his position that he couldn't have left her to suffer. He yells that "that man" (Neo) promised to take her away from the battlefield. Rey breaks up their argument by pointing out that what's over is over and what's to come is unknown.

Both Dullindal and Talia looks displeased by what's been happening with Shinn's case...

Neo brings Stellar and Sting to a base in Russia(?); Sting does not recognise Stellar any more. Then a long speech by Djibril which we can ignore, but for that Destroy will be employed to flatten Western Eurasia (alright, he said "quieten"). Then a long prep talk by Cagalli, with soldiers mentioning that there are people in Orb discontented with Yuna's ilk.

Murrue finds Kira brooding by himself and he unloads his doubts on her (and this being Kira, there are quite a lot of doubts). A brief lament over Athrun that will set yaoi fans writing another 200 fics. Murrue replies that she believes it's never wrong to protect those precious to you (of course, here, we cut to Shinn and Stellar), but sometimes the way it is done might be wrong (cue Mwu death flashback).

Neo introduces Stellar to her new suit Destroy, telling her that if she doesn't fight then scary things will come and kill everyone.

Shinn is released with no charges; Dullindal smirking as he moves another chess piece (*I find it interesting he's moving a white pawn...if Kira really was the white king).

Destroy, huge ugly beast that it is, is an astoundingly effective weapon of mass destruction. It's got a positron shield, huge plasma cannons, positron beam rays, laser beams, normal artillery (*and excuse me if I got any of these wrong). It's enormous and probably slow (haven't seen it jumping around), but it doesn't need speed because of its numerous defensive and offensive equipments.

AA watches the trail of destruction left by Destroy and decides to set out. Shinn confronts Athrun with a very cocky smile on his face, saying that it seems someone in the Headquarters agrees with his ideals, so Athrun's sense of justice isn't all that justified after all.

You were doing so well this episode Shinn, but now I'm pissed off at you again. No further comments on this episode (because I want to get to the next one!)

Opens with Destroy's arrival in Berlin and the ensuing massacre. Neo does not look happy, and neither does Sting - the latter is jealous. Djibril is laughing smugly, saying that all those who plan to be friendly with ZAFT will be taught a lesson. Freedom shoots at Destroy, but is blocked by the positron shield. Neo is surprised at the appearance of AA, Kira is totally thrown by the sheer size of Destroy. Neo warns Stellar that Freedom is strong. Stellar transforms into the mobile suit version of Destroy (*er, okay, I should probably mention that before this Destroy was in mobile armour form...which is basically anything else that's not mobile suit). Freedom floats near Destroy, completely dwarved.

Freedom gets engaged, on top of Destroy, by Neo and Sting. Cagalli wants to launch. Wow! Destroy has detachable arms! What the heck ==; On PLANT, Dullindal insists that Destroy must be destroyed, even if Minerva doesn't have much power right now.

Kira is heavily pressed by Destroy and Chaos (Sting)! Thank god he had practice against Providence, or he'd be fried pork now!

Cue Strike Rouge's launch sequence! Ah...the nostalgic days of GSeed (yes, they reused Strike's original launch sequence for Cagalli ==;;) Three Murasames (Orb's MS) launches with her and engages Sting.

Minerva uses heat signal analysis to reveal what's happening. Talia tells Shinn to prepare for launch, and that "don't get the enemies mixed up" (i.e. don't go after Freedom and AA for now). Athrun gasps "Kira!" Lunamaria glances at him without looking surprised. Shinn glares at Athrun, Athrun looks back at Shinn. Shinn marches off. Athrun, "Shinn!" (WTF?). Athrun looks disgusted at himself. Lunamaria watches Athrun. Rey watches Athrun.

SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON! What's with all these "X looks at Y who looks at Z who looks at Y"?! And what's with Athrun always saying Shinn's name these days? Why does he say "Shinn!" every time after Shinn marches away from him and stare inscrutably at Shinn before Shinn has left?! OMG MAN, spit it out!!! I mean, I noticed it in GSeed too, with Athrun always just screaming Kira's name without saying anything useful afterwards, but this is just fricken retarded. What an excuse for a line.

Blaargh.

On with the show. Under heavy assault from Destroy, Kira goes SEED. Neo tries a snag at Freedom, and Kira looks surprised. Stellar remembers what Neo tells her about destroying scary stuff and goes into frenzy. Shinn launches Impulse.

AA notices Impulse and Minerva's approach and starts looking worried. Talia says remotely that it would be nice if they could fight together (I take this to mean "on the same side") but it would be difficult now.

Stellar flashes back to Neo's words again; Shinn flashes back at what he held Neo to promise. They go head to head! Shinn speeds towards the cockpit and smashes open the cockpit.

Okay, here, I will say something, because this was AB-SO-LUTE-LY retarded. Destroy's positron shields had worked on other MS's that had tried to pounce on it. There's no excuse for it not have automatically turned on when Impulse approached it. But for the sake of sanity, let us proceed...

Stellar goes into an even bigger frenzy and shoots at every part of the city. Shinn shouts that "why would you want to kill so much?!" Neo pulls Impulse back bodily and tells him that Stellar's in the cockpit. Shinn goes into shock once he zoomed up on the cockpit and realised that it was true.

Freedom shoots at Destroy, and yells at Impulse for just floating there. AA and Minerva watch on, perplexed, as Impulse does nothing. Neo takes another jab at Freedom, destroying its shield. Kira shouts to Murrue "Please take care of this" and - as people have very elegantly put it - "Saviours" Neo's Windam (*cackles*). Neo falls away from the cockpit as his Windam explodes. Zooming up on Neo (with his mask removed and lying prone), Murrue looks in shock and I say here that his face is plastered to the ground and he has long hair and he's in an entirely different uniform so there's no way she would have recognised him outright like that unless she recognised his butt.

Stellar screams, thinking Neo is dead. Shinn is still stunned. Chaos tries to retreat, but the Murasame dismantles him (no telling if Sting's dead or not, because we don't see the cockpit exploding, but Chaos is definitely gone).

Destroy fires her cannons and incinerates the entire city. Kira charges at Destroy and gets deflected by the positron shields (SEE WHAT I MEAN?!?! HOW COULD IMPULSE HAVE APPROACHED HER THE SAME WAY?!?! And Impulse being faster than Freedom is no excuse, because it's not.) Shinn chases after Freedom and drives it away. The Minerva crew is shocked, but Rey looks only expectant. Shinn then tries to get in contact with Stellar (umm, how did he manage to unscramble Destroy's communication wavelength?)

As Impulse flies towards Stellar, she becomes increasingly frightened and shoots (without aiming) at Impulse. Impulse stops a way from Destroy and Shinn yells at her, that he would protect her, that she wouldn't die. Stellar seems to hear this, and lowers her firing arm.

And here comes the ABSOLUTE-IST most retarded part of this rubbish, a Fllay x Kira death scene, except this time it's Stellar x Shinn. You know, the naked flying around star-studded cosmos. *Tears out hair*

Kira watches the two stationary gundams in puzzlement. A piece of glass explodes and Stellar "wakes up", sees Freedom flying into view and Impulse at point blank range.

Er, then there's some odd flashbacks about Freedom dismantling Saviour, and Neo's voice again.

Stellar goes crazy again and steps towards the gundams. Talia orders Minerva into motion and aims at Destroy. Shinn vainly tries to shout at Stellar. Destroy's chest cannons power up (with Shinn STILL in point blank range). Kira shouts that it's enough, and kicks the cannons before they could fire (Freedom is still caught by the positron shields, but somehow he still kicks the cannons anyway - wtf?!). The cannons misfire and explode. Destroy goes down, Shinn screaming Stellar's name. Kira grimly watching it all.

Murrue is picking up Neo with the AA crew, and she is in shock. We see Neo's face - very like Mwu, but with a long scar across his left cheek.

Shinn has Stellar in his arms. She says "Shinn, you came to see me. Shinn protected Stellar. I like Shinn." Then her hand falls and she (probably) dies. With intermittent flashbacks to his family's demise, Shinn lifts his head (as he did back then) and screams, surrounded by dying flames.

Bleh.

A blatant set up for the fight between Freedom and Impulse, leading to new gundams Strike Freedom and Destiny. I would have felt sadder about Stellar's death, but somehow Nicol's death still seemed to have a more poignant meaning. If this is the climax (as Nicol's death had been) I'm not satisfied. Of course I'll need to watch the next few episodes to decide (as the climax for GSeed stretched from about 30-35).

I'm equally dissatisfied with the multiple loopholes in the plot: why does Destroy's positron shield deflects everyone but Impulse (oooooh, da pow-wah of luv~~ *puke*)? Why did Impulse not need to dodge Destroy's beam rays as Freedom did? Why does Shinn not get pissed off at Neo, who returned Stellar to the battlefield despite promising not to? Kira obviously recognised Neo somehow before he dismantled Windam, but how exactly did Murrue recognise Neo before she got onto the ground? How did Kira manage to kick the canons while being simultaneously deflected by the positron shields? How does Shinn manage to get in contact with Destroy (since they're usually on secret wavelengths) when he evidently did not use the international distress channel? Why does Stellar flashback to Freedom destroying Saviour when she wasn't even there to witness it? When is Athrun going to stop acting like an infatuated girl around Shinn and actually do something constructive?

Other questions: The piece of glass exploded on Stellar's left, and Freedom flew into view from her upper left. Did Kira shoot? Most people say that he didn't, but we wouldn't know. He doesn't seem to have been doing anything, and I guess if he had shot, then he would have incurred Impulse's instant anger. How did Kira recognise Neo? Unless it's by piloting.... Also, how does the positron shield work? How does the phase shift armour work? If it really was positron shielding, Freedom's foot should be well gone by now...right? ==;;

I can understand Shinn's anger at Kira, even if he got his ass saved by the guy. I'd be pissed off at Kira too, if I were Shinn, even if I knew it was unjustified. I'd probably also look for a chance to personally and legitimately shishkebab Freedom. Ah ha ha ha. I'm terrible.
