Because of the whole hype surrounding Kira's return to the battlefield, I was understandably a little disappointed when it came.

A few things I see discussed in forums, which I don't actually agree with, but I'm too lazy to sign up to that forum XD

1. I don't think Cagalli's out of character. She certainly wasn't too impressive, but given that up to now all she's been doing is wavering with the political wind, you can't blame her for becoming stricken when the Orb forces fired at her.

2. Honestly, I didn't see a point in Archangel turning up at all, except for, as people pointed out, fanservicing Kira and Freedom fans. It was really naive on their part, though that's pretty much in step with Cagalli and Kira's personalities, but I would have hoped for a bit more thought into what they were planning to do. Did they really think they would be able to call off the Orb fleets just by Cagalli turning up? What sort of situation does that leave the Orb fleets anyway? They were hemmed in on both sides by EA forces, it would be outright slaughter.

3. I don't see it, I just don't see it! How can Heine's death be blamed on Kira? Okay, this is MY interpretation of events: Kira cuts off Gouf's weapon arm, and he briefly demobilises Gaia. Both Heine and Stellar shouts, in variations of the phrase "Damn you, are you looking down on me?!" and both of them tries to attack Kira at the same time. It's Heine's bloody stupidity that he jumped right into Gaia's path and got chopped up, right in front of Athrun's eyes. End of story. I don't think the producer's even trying to put blame on Kira (god, that would be a fricken clone of Seed). My view on it is that they're actually setting the plot up for a Stellar-Shinn reunion, because after all - under normal conditions, there's no way that Stellar could have killed Heine.

4. It's been a long time since we've heard Athrun growl "Kira...!!" in that angry voice. On the Kira vs Athrun vs Shinn debate: Shinn, as of he is now, isn't even worth considering as being on the same level. I'm not actually saying this because, cough, I don't like Shinn, but because in terms of adverse combat experience, he is quite a bit behind Athrun, and even more so behind Kira. Kira and Athrun evens out because though Athrun trained for longer than Kira, Kira has been through a lot more battles under much more gruelling conditions than Athrun.

5. Another Kira vs Heine bashing thing: there are a number of reasons why Kira did not react to Heine's death as he did to Nicol's. Most importantly, Nicol was the one that ran to save Athrun, and died unwittingly by Kira's hands. Kira had no idea that Heine was in any way related to Athrun (and plus, Kira probably saw it as "you had it coming"). Also, with his back turned, he probably did not see the actual event of Heine's death. And Kira said before going into battle that "I'll do what I can"...not equivalent to "I'll save everyone on the battlefield". Soldiers go into war with an expectation that at any moment their life could end, and Kira would be as stricken as Cagalli if he paused to mourn for every exploding MS. And no, Heine would not have stopped Gaia gutting Gouf even if he HAD his weapon arm.

6. Kira is not god. Why can't people get that into their heads? >.< I'm referring to both Kira fans and Kira bashers here. As people pointed out, "Ultimate Coordinator" is simply a human being that has his genes fully optimised, where all unwelcome factors were eliminated during foetal development. It does NOT give Kira superpowers! He is exactly the same as any other Coordinator, except for the fact that the expression of his genes are better-matched to the expected result. I give you Kira's own words from Seed, "Coordinators are not born knowing everything. They have to work hard to achieve good results, just as Naturals do." They are just slightly better equipped to do so. ...This is really going to lead into the nature vs nurture debate, so I'll just shut up now...^^;;;
