This was a process of mutually learning about each other. The naturally talented Jin was especially well thought of, the child not only had extraordinary looks but also exceptionally warm and mellow vocals. And Kame's voice was more like cold strings, a thread of a rawness and a thread of greenness, as though forever stopped in youth. The Kame like this showed a hint of an inferiority complex, and it could be said that for a long time he lived in Jin's shadow, but Jin's existence really did give Kame enormous courage. That year Kame acted in the famous TV drama Kinpachi-sensei (5th season) as a rebellious boy who ran from home, whose name was "Akihiko". Many years later, Akanishi Jin acted in Anego, whose character was also named "Akihiko".
After successfully acting as "Akihiko", Kame suddenly gained a number of fans he did not expect, and he even gained admiration from a lot of kouhai. For example, Kusano who later debuted with NEWS, and Yabu Kota who had always been chasing after KAT-TUN [TN: Yabu has now debuted with Hey!Say!Jump], as well as number of other juniors formed a fanclub for Kame called "KFC" (Kamenashi Fans Club). This was something that came out of the blue for Akanishi Jin, who had always stood before him as a protector, and when he later became a little antagonistic towards Kusano, and acted unexpectedly fond of Kota (took him in as a little brother) had more than a little to do with Kame. (To put it simply, Kusano was very similar in age to Kame and little too obvious in his affections, but Kota was much younger and was just simply respect)
I was already really fond of Kame of that time: always wearing that Nobuta hairstyle (which later became almost representative of Kame), pink pajamas, hugging a pillow and sitting in an unnoticeable position, opening his eyes very wide when frightened...it really was indescribably adorable. At the time Jin was already quite exceptional amongst the juniors, and having Kame following him around was something that he seemed happy and proud of. It seems that Kame was like his private possession, and everyone knows that this BAGA is infamously domineering [TN: Yes ==; Even recently Maru and Ueda (2009) separately said "Akanishi is the kind of guy who says...my stuff is mine, your stuff is also mine"]. And it seemed for Kame that a lot of his world was taken up by this person. In a 2000 magazine talk with Toma, there were five questions, out of which four answers contained Jin: going with Jin and his family to the ocean, going shopping with Jin and Jin buying a baseball cap for him...
Even people who didn't know anything could see: this kid really likes Jin right?! -- That sort of feeling. Yes, he must like Jin!

Then there was the famous "Okinawa Trip", which a lot of AK fans call "Akakame Honeymoon Trip". LOL~ But I don't totally agree.
It was summer of 2000, I thought Akanishi gave a rather strange answer in a magazine interview. The magazine asked: "Do you have any wishes at the moment?" --- "Go to Okinawa, with a friend. Yeh...and take Kame (Kame. Pronouced: Ka-me)" At the time I hadn't felt that there was any special relationship between the two, and I just thought Akanishi Jin's way of thinking was weird. Isn't Kame your friend? Why would you use "take", he's not a pet!
But Akanishi Jin very quickly got a chance to realise his dream. The Juniors had a competition program and if they won many in a row then they had a chance to get their dream. (In actual fact it was a way for the company to test which kids were compatible with each other) Just as a side point, the MC at the time was Yamashita Tomohisa~ Yamashita asked, "Akanishi, what's your dream?" Of course, it goes without saying, to take Kame to Okinawa. Akanishi said full of confidence, "To take Kame to Okinawa!" Unfortunately Kame wasn't feeling too grateful at the time, and ran out sulkily pulling on Jin's sleeve and pushing on each other, "I don't want to go to Okinawa, I want to go to Hokkaido!!"
"If Kame wins we'll go to Hokkaido, if I win we're going to Okinawa!" (Kame was eliminated in an earlier round) After sulking about it for a bit, Kame stepped down~ (LOL, they were so cute when they were young) Of course the result was Akanishi Jin won and took Kame to Okinawa. (By the way, after winning Kame happily jumped up and hugged Jin's waist~ and was pushed onto the ground......) [TN: ==;;; I don't know if it's the version of subs I got or what, it wasn't all like that. Yamashita: "Akanishi, what's your dream?" Jin: "To go against Kamenashi...have a trip to Okinawa!" Kame runs out and the two of them push each other about and Kame yells, "I want to go too!" Jin: "Is that okay?" Yamashita: "Hmm. You guys are pretty close." We also don't see Kame hug Jin, but we do see Jin shove someone and the camera pans out to show Kame rolled over on the ground. Tsk tsk.] In actual fact, the two kids were bullied a lot by Takki during that Okinawa trip, forced to have a bath together in the sea, sleeping together in a tent by the seaside, Jin shouting, "I wanna go home!!" and slumping over on Kame's lap...of course the final memory was still good (of course Takki wouldn't torture the kids too much). [TN: The trip was adorable. It was so hilarious how in the middle Jin whined, "You should have won and we would've gone to Hokkaido instead!" and Kame retorting, "Yeah, and then we wouldn't have had bitter gourd for lunch." (It was "Okinawa produce" so they had to eat it)] Many years later, Jin wrote a solo song named "Murasaki" (Purple):
[TN: The two of them were forced to get up at 6am in the morning, so they did watch the dawn together. But purple clouds? Interesting coincidence - or not? - Kame's birthstone is amethyst. Purple.]
This classic Okinawa trip were replayed many times in Shounen Club, even recently [TN: 2006] when Imai Tsubasa came on as VIP, this bit was taken out to play [TN: along with Takki, Tsubasa also made some really evil requests for them to carry out during Okinawa]. Tsubasa even teased Jin, "I have Kame's private toothbrush at my house!" Unexpectedly Jin didn't rise to the bait, "Oh, I hope to get my own private towel at your house then!"
Actually I don't think of it as the so-called "Honeymoon Trip". The kids were still young at the time, and at most they were just very close. When Jin won, Kame happily ran up to Jin but was pushed onto the ground. To be honest I felt a bit angry at Jin always pushing Kame away, but slowly I began to realise, he really was a kid who wasn't good at expressing his feelings, which was somewhat surprising. But the "Okinawa Trip" was special for the both of them. Later Kame said, "When I feel down, I want to go to Okinawa."

This is one of my lesser priority projects, and I really want to do the translations at my own pace. I know once I put it out in a community (especially an AK-centric one) a lot of people would really love more (because it's so waffy ^^) and I don't want to be working under that sort of pressure, because it's such a long essay that I don't want to be forced through it and get sick of it before I finish.
Maybe once I've finished translating the whole thing I'll put all the entries together in a link list or something. So yeah...sorry, you'll have to put up with my very slow translating for the moment...
Anyway~ Thanks for reading =D Glad you loved it as much as I did.
