a time travelling dream
12 Feb 2009 12:10 amBefore I start, I have updated my LJ layout~ (Courtesy
thefulcrum) And the banner is courtesy moi~ Am so proud of my foresight in taking random pictures of golden teddy bears against a red background. I knew it would come useful (no, not really).
This morning I had a Harry Potter-esque dream. Before you start laughing, the last time I read HP was...right before I heard Sirius majorly kicked the bucket, so NO, I don't know what brought it on.
Apparently the main character in the dream (who was alternately me and not me) travelled back in time to participate in some sort of riddle type quest. I can't remember the specifics, which is very sad, but she had to look for a lot of hidden clues while trying to stay under the radar at a Hogwarts-like school. I don't actually know if it's a school. It's more like an old Victorian building renovated to become a dormitory, and a lot of students live in it.
Halfway through her quest, she realised there was a team of two girls who kept trying to get in her way. Because she came from the future, she had a relatively easy time with the puzzles, but somehow she realised that this other team seemed to know things with more prescience than she did. She figured out that they were also from the future, but from three months after (as in...more to the future) than she was.
She then used an invisibility cloak - yes...that's what I said ==;;; - to try and sneak into their rooms. Rather than a mere magical cloak like Harry's, it seems to be one of those cloaks that scientists are developing these days that bends light around it to project a transparent image. This is because she saw a mirror and wondered if it would reflect her presence............
Anyway, technical details aside (I hate physics, by the way), there was a guy who "has really good eyesight", who's also participating in the quest. He has the ability to see through things Orz So when she started sneaking around in her invisibility cloak, he got curious and followed her into the room of the two girls she's trying to investigate. The two girls seemed to know that she's there, and start rushing back, so she's trying to search through their handbags for something important (which I can't remember), while growing more and more panicky. The guy who followed her then steps out and asks her what she's looking for, and helps her fish it out of the handbag. The two of them run out of the rooms, but the girls coming in the other direction see them running down the stairs and try to chase them...and this part is kinda hilarious...the girl grabs the guy by his waist, bundles him under the invisibility cloak and slides down the handrails of the stairs.
There was a time skip that I can't explain =/ The next day, she sees someone she's close to making negotiations with the two girls she stole from. They're sitting in a cafeteria and eating. On the row of tables behind them sits the guy who helped her, watching their talks but not quite involved. She sits down opposite the two girls and then turns and asks the guy why he's sitting so far. He says something along the lines that he's an outsider to the conversation, but she urges him to join them, and he moves so that he sits diagonally opposite her - something she's bothered about LOL. The other people at the table (the two girls and her friend) look surprised by how she went out of the way to be friendly with him, and ask her "What happened last night after the two of you left?" She had to hastily assure them that nothing happened XD
The two girls learned that the main character needed to complete the quest so that her parents would remain safe. They seemed to agree to that, and not only let her keep the item that she stole, but also gave her a lot of the clues/pieces that they've gathered. They then return to the future, but they tell her that the island that they're doing this quest on has only two days before it completely sinks under water, during which time she will have to complete all 12 parts of the quest. ...But the first part of the quest had taken her a week.
The dream ended with her hurriedly solving about half of the quest while the waves surge over the island and it slowly sinks under sea level..........................
Then I got really annoyed because I didn't get to see the ending. Grr. Trying to go back to sleep did not help.
The guy's personality reminded me a lot of a certain manga character, but I can't place my finger on it. He's one of those outgoing, energetic kinds who at first comes across as silly/shallow, but turns out to be a lot warier of other people and a lot more cynical.
