mayoraaseiLong characters meme, which I will this time do properly for anime characters.
In the interests of equity, I will only do male characters from shounen series (uh what?)
First, select ten fictional characters (from any medium) by whichever method you like best. Then answer the questions below.
1. (Hunter x Hunter) Killua Zoldyck
2. (D.Grayman) Allan Walker
3. (Black Cat) Train Heartnet
4. (Gundam Seed) Athrun Zala
5. (Gintama) Hijikata Toshizo
6. (Tsubasa RC) Fai Fluorite (I swear his name sounds like toothpaste)
7. (Inuyasha) Inuyasha
8. (Yakitate Japan) Azuma Kazuma
9. (Saiyuki) Cho Hakkai
10. (Hikaru no Go) Touya Akira

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?
So...first up: Killua, Train, Hijikata, Inuyasha, Hakkai. Wow, this is a lethal sounding group already.
Second group: Allan, Athrun, Fai, Azuma, Akira. ...FAI YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR NAME.
Group ONE: Hijikata's normally the commander of the Shisengumi, so I'm pretty sure he'll work at slotting himself in as the leader here, although to very little success - I bet. Hakkai would be the second-in-command by default, kind of like the power behind the stage, as he usually is. What on earth is the chick? The ditziest person here? The person who's always in distress? (God the sexual prejudice here) Ditziest personality would be Train, but the person who seems the weakest is Inuyasha >_>; Killua would be the smart guy with no problems, even though he's half everyone else's age LOL. This group wouldn't work very well though, because I doubt Killua or Inuyasha's willing to listen to Hijikata. Train might, but will most likely take off and do his own thing when the time comes. Ah Hijikata...no one has any respect for you =P
Group TWO: The AAAA+F group XDDD I'm not sure this group would be able to do anything useful as a "power rangers" team, especially with Azuma and Akira =/ This team would get along very well though, and I think they'd all clamour for each other to be leader. In the end I think Athrun and Fai would divide the decisions between themselves. Athrun has a natural princeliness, but he's not a very good leader, while Fai seems good at gently prodding people in the right direction. Akira the smart guy (well he can play Go very well at any rate), Allan would be the "big guy" (HAHAHA it's so funny, the very image of his scrawniness) because he has the most natural power, and Azuma by default ends up being a chick. What.
Oh I don't think swapping any one person could help the first group. None of them are team players, tsk!
2. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
Allan, Azuma and Akira? I don't think any of the plot would remain the same if they're changed. Allan's mild and a little girly, so his might be the least changed (and as far as I've read he seems to have very little chemistry with Linalee ==;) Azuma has Tsukino...and Akira? Well...perhaps there'd be less yaoi fanfics if he were a girl!! The plot might remain the same, but the HikaruXAkira pairing now has a whole different...dynamic. Mm.
3. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?
The Killua and Azuma pairing won't be far off from the Killua and Gon pairing in the original. The two of them would be incredibly out of place in each other's worlds (a bread-making Hunter? An assassin baker?....Hmm) but Azuma has the same sort of infectious enthusiasm and unbridled frankness and sense of loyal justice as...well, 80% of mainstream shounen main characters, including Gon ==; Who knows, it might just work, if we forget the fact that they'd never meet each other doing their usual jobs.
Hijikata and Hakkai would be an interesting combination. Hakkai's a bit "evil behind a gentle smile" kind, which is sort of like Okita. But Hakkai has the sort of temper that can - if he wishes - get along with anyone, and Hijikata's usually respectful of anyone who has a brain (which, in any case, is very few in Gintama). They're both the kind who keep their troubles to themselves, and are both very loyal to their friends - so it makes for very yummy subtle nuances......MUAHAHA. Okay, onwards.
4. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Train, Athrun and Hakkai...ah very strong team. What to do~ Train and Athrun can both go from physical: Athrun is constitutionally...umm, "super"human? While Train has the...uh, training and experience for anything physical. And he's pretty superhuman too, at least where eyesight is concerned. Both Athrun and Hakkai are smart - again, because Athrun's genetically programmed to be smarter =/ Finally...all three are good in their own sort of social situations. Athrun's well-cultured, so he knows how to deal with formal situations, Hakkai's thoughtful and can interact well with most people, and Train has that extra streak of fearlessness that becomes a good weapon in difficult social situations.
But the safest choice would be Hakkai for social, Train for physical and Athrun for mental. When all else fails, Athrun can use his Haro. LOL.
5. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
Er. Killua will kill Inuyasha after an hour. Unless Killua's forced to endure it, in which case he'll keep his temper for as long as he can...and then kill Inuyasha XD
6. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Allan in Fai's life? Ummmmmmmmmmm........................... that's............... really difficult. Fai has no family (left). The only way this would work is if Allan becomes one of the travellers. Collecting Innocences, from other worlds, YEAH(Not)!! They'll get along fine though I'm I think Allan would be redundant, what with Fai already being the smiley mild-tempered guy on the team.
7. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?
Train would probably give all his wishes to Hijikata and tell Hijikata to do whatever with them. Train's the type who, after having woken up from a long nightmare, really wants to make destiny with his own hands. And Hijikata would wish for a lot of mayonnaise. And a lot of mayonnaise. And a WORLD MADE FROM MAYONNAISE. Amen.
8. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?
LOL...Killua is already a trained assassin! That's his profession!
Well, I guess in some way Athrun is a professional escapist, NEVERTHELESS!
Allan's powers really aren't made for killing, so I don't know if he'd help, but Killua won't need help! Athrun might make a good escape by flying up to space in Justice/whatever, but Killua will hunt him down...eventually. And he can use electricity to short-circuit the Gundam ^_~
9. 6, 7, 9 & 10 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?
Fai and Hakkai would play with the children. They're good with children (hello Kurogane? Hello the three other psychos in Saiyuki?) and the kids would love them =3 Akira will teach them Go, the boring person he is!
Inuyasha will sit there and sulk and the kids will pull on his ears and he'll get annoyed and then headfloor as Kagome screams "OSUWARI"
10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?
Train and Azuma? It'll never work...Train will get distracted by anything, and Azuma will only want to make bread.

Okay seriously ==; I started this picture years ago, when I still read D.Grayman, and I decided to finish it off this year after digging out references for his complicated uniform coat.
I liked Allen, for a while anyway, although that wasn't enough to keep me entertained by a series that came across as a retread of all shounen conventions, albeit in a slightly less annoying way than other shounen. He was sweet and bumbling and yet strong-willed and determined. He was probably the only character that really set this manga apart from others of its ilk. Cold efficient bishounen rival with angsty past, check. Sweet cute girl with no distinguishing personality, check. Funny loud-mouthed but loyal sidekick, check. Random non-descript mascot that makes incoherent cutesy noises, check.
I know D.Grayman has other merits, and it's probably gotten better than the first 100 chapters I read, but I totally understand why it has been described as a series of deja vus.
It's terrible, I've done more fanart this year than I have in my entire life...
