mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Babbo)
A few days ago, some guy posted a raging rant full of inept misspellings on the school shootings, tearing into witnesses or other students who claimed they were traumatised by the event. Another guy jumped in with his passionate agreement, clamouring, "STFU you little crybaby...Stupid goddamned little whiners looking for an avenue for pity and drama".

It angered me, as a lot of guys like these have before.

It angered me that they should be so dismissive of these killings and people's reactions to them. The simple phrase get over them for something that shouldn't be "gotten over". People who were entirely innocent of the affair had died, the sanctuary for students violated, the security lost. People are entitled to be traumatised, to feel shaken and shocked when that happens.

It angers me because I see it so often. In the Gundam Seed forums, there are always the odd few numbers who heartily support the violent and ruthless tactics some of the villains choose to use. "This is war," they claim, "The more enemies that die, the better."

"Kira is just stupid for not killing his enemies, because they can come back later and kill him."

"Kira is so unrealistic and wimpy."

But why is it I never thought Kira unrealistic? If I was in Kira's situation, I would have done the same thing. He's a civilian, and through his entire military association, he adamantly remained a civilian, with full awareness what he was putting at risk.

"Dullindal is stupid. Humans will always go to war anyway."

Why does the world have to go to war? Just because it happens does it mean that it should happen?

It makes me angry that people would choose to blind themselves, and then celebrate in how "pragmatic" they are. It makes me angry that they would choose the violent way first rather than last, that they would choose to support the swift destruction of lives rather than communication.

It makes me angry, because instead of being more clearheaded, they are the most afraid of being hurt by failure, the most terrified that if negotiation didn't work, they would lose something.

I admire Kira and his choice of pacifist fighting because he shows that there are principles more important than self-preservation.

And it made me think of something I said to myself a long time ago...that the only guys I can ever like are those who understands what it is to be weak and helpless and frightened. Men who walk through lives, smirking at other people's doubts and apprehensions make me want to take to their heads with a meat cleaver.

And in doing so, negate everything I've said above...*sigh*.
