In recent years, China's religious authorities and the Vatican have clashed over the appointment of bishops.

Rome has said it wants the final say.

China's state-approved church has said it controls bishops, and the government has accused the Holy See of "interfering in internal affairs" by demanding authority over bishops.

Fuck this. Why does the Chinese government always try to shove politics up religion's proverbial ass?

Internal affairs. W.T.F. Why should a government that is the antithesis of God and religiousness and Christianity demand the right to interfere with the Christian church's internal affairs?

Christians have a right to keep their religion pure and free from getting dumped with assholes who probably don't give a rat's ass about what Christianity is.

Any time when religion starts kissing politics' ass (or vice versa) is when things go wrong.

I guess the government is very paranoid about losing any control over any part of the populace and in case there's any eventual uprising. I mean, it's not like religion (especially Catholicism) is completely apolitical; history has shown that it has a knack of influencing politics quite significantly.

I mean, maybe the Catholic church in China should be allowed to appoint their own bishops if it can somehow promise to not spread political messages, even very indirectly. I personally am so very against any form of influence religion over politics so I guess I can empathise with China's policy here (if that is indeed why they want to appoint their own bishop).
