april anime: shining tears
18 Apr 2007 02:34 pmDamn America and their rare breeds of respiratory viruses. As soon as I came back, I was struck down by whatever latest fashionable flu it was.
So on my first day of recovery (which also happens to be a day off), I went and downloaded a bunch of anime that I wouldn't otherwise go near.
Well, it's April, so the new season's started (my excuse). There's very few I recognise, apart from Romeo x Juliet. At the same time there's also a live drama version of Romeo and Juliet and King Lear. Whatever prompted this latest infatuation with Shakespeare, I think I'll stay far and clear of this. I always suspect that the time when I submit myself to Chinese/Japanese/Korean versions of Shakespeare would be the time when Hollywood makes a non-brain-immolating version of The Three Kingdoms or The Tales of Genji.
So, first up, Shining Tears x Wind (what is it with Japanese and their obsession with using "x" on its own as something...grammatical?)
I downloaded this purely because Hoshi Souichirou (Kira) sings the opening and ending songs, and I've had a terrible impression of his singing ever since the Angelic Layer days. He played Oojirou there by the way, ICCHAN-SAN's brother. Sorry, ICCHAN-SAN must always be accompanied by capitals and bolding.
Astonishingly, the opening song was actually..actually...a song! Like, it was music!
At the moment I think it's shounen, but with its glossiness and pathetic female characters that does nothing but fall over and fanservice, it's well on its way to becoming soft porn material, but hey.
It's kind of like MAR...or like a male version of Fushigi Yuugi or whatever. Two people are transported to a different world by a cat-eared demon and the Allen-look-alike-main-character pulls a big sword out of his crush's body and hacks up a few demons.
Hoshi Souichirou plays two characters in this anime, both the main character and the purple-eyed-double-winged-thing. It's the second time I listened to his voice and thought, "Eh? Who's that?" (The first was Goku from Saiyuki....now that's a memory to be treasured....OTZ)
After checking it up and getting over my initial shock of discovering that Hoshi-san actually is playing the main character Souma, I realised that the shota-looking boy whose voice had sounded so damn familiar was played by Ishida Akira (Athrun) ||||||OTZ
...No wonder it sounded familiar. Argh.
The purple-eyed-thing, whose name is Zero (OTZ again), sounded so like Kira/every-other-character-Hoshi-san-ever-played-except-Goku, that it was impossible to miss. But Souma was so out of type I couldn't connect it at all. 感覺是傳説中的“翻身”吧……*倒* I've been around Irene too much.
Yeah, and I continue my trend of liking any character with purple eyes *squee*
The quality of the ending song, however, can be so different from the opening OTZ I think they should refrain from adding echoes to his voice next time OTZ
.....It's nowhere near as bad as hearing "Hakkai" sing, though ||||||||OTZ
...I shall now go and tackle the horror that's named 鋼鐵三國志 and opens with two guys staring lovingly into each other's eyes and er.....draped on top of each other ||||||||||||OTZ
Wow...I have now added Miyano Mamoru's voice (Tamaki/Raito) into my list of "voices that I can recognise on hearing" OTZ

Date: 2007-04-19 08:33 am (UTC)I still haven't gotten around to Koutetsu yet. I'm not a huge fan of 吴国 to be honest, when I read the Three Kingdoms XD I don't recognise the main character's name...either I've got really bad memory or he wasn't in the Three Kingdoms Oo;
Ah yeh, I've got El Cazador as well...haven't gotten to that either OTZ I should stop biting off more than I can chew... (aka downloading more than I can watch...)
