I had seen in book shops the books by Lian Hearn, the Otori series which had always registered for me as kind of "pseudo-Jap-wannabe" >__>;;;;

(It also bothered me because the kanji for the last name Ootori is the same as that for Feng =P)

And so I was completely nonplussed when I saw that Lian Hearn = Gillian Rubinstein.

I LOVED Space Demon when I read it in year 6, and its sequel Sky Maze in year 7. Foxspell was scary but cool.

I also didn't realise that there was another sequel, Shinkei, set in Japan.

Although these words on the book's summary -
Shinkei means "nerve", or "nervous system", and the meaning of the symbols used to write it is 'pathway of the gods'.
- is taking the literal meaning a little too far >__>;

Like the Chinese meaning, "shin" I presume would not only refer to "gods" but also to "consciousness" or "soul". So "pathway for the soul" would be a more precise (and less theatrical) reading.

...Er, sorry, the inner translator in me nitpicking at the words.
