get a life ==;
3 Sep 2006 11:14 pmPeople who take their religion out of popular fiction need to seriously get a life.
Jedi-ism aside, view this:
Pagans had borrowed from the Discworld series peopled by dwarfs, witches and fairies, while young men had shaped their living fantasies on comic book heroes and Star Wars narratives. Role-playing games of the 1990s such as Dungeons and Dragons spurred interest in acting out fictional characters and events.
*COUGH SPLUTTER COUGH COUGH*
...Goodness! Who starts a religion based on Discworld?! Give me a good dose of Vimes-ism any day (although I suspect his take on religion is probably "Vimes is very open-minded about religious fanatics, as long as they don't break the law." and "Vimes is very open-minded about gods, as long as they don't smite anyone on his turf." Aww.)
And I wouldn't call cosplaying/RPG-ing a religion. There's a difference between fanaticism and religion, although atheists might not agree ==;;;
The vampire subculture - bigger in the US than in Australia and splintering from the Goth movement of the 1970s - borrows more from Anne Rice's broody, immortal and powerful figure of Lestat in the Vampire Chronicles than Bram Stoker's figure of old. That subculture, Dr Hume said, consisted of vampire role players, but also people who believed they were vampires.
*COUGH*
That's why you get so many idiotic Mary-Sues-goths in Harry Potter fanfics.
Oooh, the joy of mutilating oneself! The joy of dressing in shredded black leather miniskirt and metal spike jewellery and caked ghastly makeup! The joy of being a bitch and blaming the world for it all!
It's times like these when one thinks that CLAMP probably has a point after all...
You shout that you are extra-ordinary, and you look with contempt on your ordinary classmates and family. But it is they who are more worthy of respect, bravely embracing their life for all its ordinariness.
I highly do not recommend being a vampire. Blood is very unhygienic, and is a vehicle for many infectious diseases.
And it doesn't even taste nice.
And I really need to stake those damn phrases "curves in all the right places" and "legs that went on for miles". ARGH. I'm so sick of seeing them!!!
