Today I locked my bag in my locker and discovered that the spare key I had was merely a key that could fit in the lock but NOT OPEN IT and I didn't have my original key with me. *Facepalm*

Luckily I had taken everything useful out of my locker first, like wallet and phone and travel pass...

Was so tired today. 7am start tomorrow...fun.

Day 6 ~ Character who would probably be your rival

Miyazawa Yukino ~ Kareshi to Kanojo no Jijou
Do people remember this classic? I never understood its popularity even if I did read and enjoy the whole manga. It must be because it resonated with Asian children being driven to succeed beyond their means.

I don't like Yukino very much and she's not a character I can relate to, but I chose her because she would be everyone's rival, simply out of principle.
Hiyama Mihoko ~ Code Blue
One of Toda Erika's bitchier roles, but also one of my faves. She plays bitch the way it should be done, not like Maki's spineless whiners, but she's also a very human character and a very familiar one. It's the classic type A personality who was not born into a family of doctors but had to work their way up, so she has a lot of embittered pride. She's had to fight for her place, and she feels she has to continue fighting even if it costs her friends and associates. She's one of those people who would do night shifts as a medical student just to push herself ahead of everyone else.
mayoraasei: (Gakuen Alice)
Sorry for the lateness. Came home super late last night after a...well, I think it was practically two hours trek from Town Hall to "the best gelato place in Sydney" and back to Central. By the time we got there and fought through the throng of queued people, I was so hot and the gelato was melting so fast that I gobbled it down without tasting much of it. So. Not an experience I want to reproduce in a hurry LOL

I did like the walk though, but I think only because it was at night and at a brisk pace. The thought of walking that distance with the sun beating down makes my head throb.

Watched episode of BOSS 2 yesterday...the new tune they keep looping in the background is almost identical to the Sherlock Holmes (movie) theme song...wasn't too impressed >>;;;;;;

Day 5 ~ Character you’d like to be your child

You-chan ~ Gakuen Alice
I can't remember if he was in the anime or not, but he's so adorable~ And rather cynical and mean for a 3-year-old, but maybe not much more than an average 3-year-old snatched away from parents at an early age and placed in the company of many hostile adults. He's so cute when he gets attached to someone, and he even makes ghosts cute XD
Nakata Youko ~ Seigi no Mikata
I don't pay attention to child actors younger than 10, mainly because I'm spending so much effort on trying to wipe their bad acting out of my memory. I know that's really mean, they're only 8 or 9 or whatever...but bad acting is bad acting, so I ended up settling for a rather plain kid. Given the choice between Youko and her perfect older sister, I'd prefer Youko. She doesn't have to get perfect marks and strut like a model...she just needs to be a nice girl who's got her heart in the right place and who can get her head down to do what's necessary.
mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Default)
Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is really what PotC 2 should have been, and I'd be more than happy if they made it into a brand and did self-contained episodes like the James Bond movies.

As much as I miss Will (not very much) and Liz (not at all), this is the fun romp that it should have been. The plot is still full of holes, granted, like why they didn't destroy the chalices ages ago if all they were going to do was smash things up when they get there, but people are back in business. It feels like they've had more time to hone the script, and Jack Sparrow retains his witty incongruent banter without descending into incongruent babble. He's also much less of a rat, and has the sort of twisted backbone that he did in the first movie - he does have principle though they may be buried under a very thick layer of dirt.

The choreography of the fight scenes continue to be brilliant, and I think some of the superhero movies (*cough*Batman) can really take a page from how resourceful the sequences are...practically everything on set can be used as a weapon or for comical effect, and there's a natural stumbling flow to it all while keeping the theme of ships and sails and ropes. Every fight scene that doesn't take place on a ship somehow harks back to seafaring.

Penelope Cruz's character isn't much different from Elizabeth in terms of personality, but she handles it with much less bitchiness more grace. Angelica and Jack Sparrow is a cute pair but unfortunately I don't see much romantic tension between them despite proclamations to be otherwise. They seem much more like familiar bickering siblings.

Day 4 ~ Character you’d like to go shopping with )

batman

mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Death of Rats)
After being told for five years that Christopher Nolan's Batman is THE defining films for superhero movies, finally sat myself down and watched both today.

...Can I just finish off by saying I like Inception better? LOL

To use Joker's phrase..."Why. So. Serioussss?" By the way, Ledger's Joker reminded me a lot of Depp's Willy Wonka. The purple suit and the caked makeup and the gleeful love for dramatics didn't help.

It's not just the body count or the immensely high and personal stakes, but the whole tone of the movies is so...nocturnal. Which I guess is part of the point, but it would nice not to feel suffocated by darkness in a superhero movie. And I think I just don't like Christian Bale, ever since he turned The Prestige dark and depressing. If Bruce and Tony (Stark) are both meant to be billionaire playboys, I can vaguely see the billionaire but hardly see the playboy in Bruce =__= Does that guy even know how to crack a smile? =__= I guess the difference is that Bruce is motivated by anger and Tony by regret, which fosters a hugely different outlook.

Ledger did a great job with the Joker, but I'm still not sure about all the adjectives handed to the character, like deep and complex >_> Sure, I think the Joker put forth some provoking questions about humanity, but complex suggests there are non-psychopathic aspects to his character, which I could not see.

Also, the first 90 minutes of The Dark Knight really dragged for me. I think...I think I'll just stick with the fact I don't like Christian Bale. I mean, I loved Michael Caine and Gary Oldman (!!!) and Morgan Freeman in it, and Maggie Gyllenhaal was cute. In fact I loved everyone except the main characters - who were both difficult to love and difficult to hate, which puts them in an uncomfortable position somewhere close to "I really don't give a hoot what happens to them", which is NOT a place you want your main characters to be in. Nolan is great at weaving multiple storylines together (as he showed convincingly in Inception), but I'm sorry, I must be the first person to find The Dark Knight to be a bore >>;;;;

Now, for the second day of memes~

Day 2 ~ Least favourite character )
mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Default)
In an effort to stay relevant and motivated, I have decided to start a 30 day meme~

Stop using your motivation on uselss stuff like this.

Since I haven't properly watched anime in, like, 3 or 4 years (or however long it's been since Gundam OO scarred me for life), this will be more a memory exercise than a prolonged fangirling session. See, memory exercises, good for you it is XD

In fact, it is so good for you that I am going to do two characters, one from anime and one from J-dramas XDDDD

Day 1 ~ Favourite character
This is hard because I like characters for a lot of different reasons, so in the end I settled for the characters I love to watch.

Kira Yamato
Hijikata lost out by the existence of Tosshi, whom I find unwatchable LOL. Basically Kira won by dint of me never remembering him to have annoyed me too much, and that he was either kicking butt or he was putting up a very impressive fight. The fights he loses are generally more spectacular, but that's another complaint altogether.

After three years of fangirling GS I really don't want to exposit on his character again. Suffice to say he's a nice guy with a whole heap of very understandable insecurities, but who nevertheless got the job done.
Osawa Eriko
This lady hath no rivals, seriously LOL In a society where women traditionally viewed employment as a temporary measure to burn up the time between graduating and marriage, it is always refreshing to see a woman who is more manly than a man XD She's brainy, efficient, poised and at the first sign of danger she'll be off kicking butt...well, someone's butt anyway, although most of the time it seems to be her own team's collective butts...

And how can you say no when she's brought to life by Amami Yuki =3=

So, this is one of those things that you should not have clicked when you had the choice.

Apparently my Mayan astrology sign is "Death"..........

You are concerned with what is happening in the world and your own neighborhood, and you like to believe that you can make a difference. You are cooperative and rarely allow your ego to get in the way of progress toward the goals you believe in. It is possible your life could become so bound up with the lives of others, it may be difficult for you to say where your self-interest begins and obligation to others ends. Death personalities intuitively know that life is a mystery, and you probably learned early on that only faith can carry you beyond the limits of your understanding. Traditional religion or philosophy appeals to you and can guide you through life and give it meaning. The actual experience of death may have left a strong mark on you at some point, and you prefer avoiding any discussion of the subject.

Grossly inaccurate, so I'm glad I'm Chinese. LOL.

What a funny thing to have as an astrology sign ==;;;; Then again, I don't know why animals are any less unusual.

I AM studying, by the way. In fact my readings tonight consisted of this:

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

~~ Philip Larkin

How...baleful, and yet utterly true. LOL.

Been having a lot of quirky dreams of late, involving robots and zombies and blonde bombshells (yes ==;), though fortunately not in the same dream. Should write it up some day.

Did a colours meme on Facebook but because the advantage of FB is you can befriend anyone including those you don't give a damn about (not that there are necessarily any on my list...cough cough), I'd rather post it here. LOL.

I got the colour GREEN which was a bit urgh at first because I thought it was going to tell me I'm lively and optimistic like spring or something equally embarrassing. It turns out to be this:

Values:
Intellectual Achievements
Logic
Competency

Joys:
Personal Achievement
Ideas
Meeting Challenges

Strengths:
Confidence
Logical
Problem-solver

Needs:
Autonomy

Accuracy

Frustrations:
Unfairness
Incompentence - Yes, INCOMPETENCE at spelling in others often frustrates me, but in this case I think it's a typo XDD It made me LOL though?
Nonsense Rules

At work you are conceptual and an independent thinker. For you work is play. You are drawn to constant challenge in career, and like to develop models, explore ideas, or build systems to satisfy your need to deal wth the innovative. Once you have perfected an idea you prefer to move on leaving the project to be maintained and supported by others: This is why there are two unfinished writing projects sitting untouched on my computer *Gets slapped*

In love you prefer to let your head rule tour heart. You dislike repetition, so it is difficult for you to continuously express your feelings. You beleive that once feelings are stated, they are obvious to a partner. You are uneasy when your emotions control you. You want to establish a relationship, leave it to maintain itself, and turn your energies back to your career.

In childhood you appeared to be older than your years and focused on your greatest interests, achiveing in subjects that were mentally stimulating. You were impatient with drill and routine, questioned authority, and found it necessary to respect teachers before you could learn from them.

That last bit was soooooooooooo true =______= I must have been such a snobby and precocious high school kid. I totally didn't pay attention in classes where I thought the teachers were winging it LOL I remember submitting a project for wide-reading that featured a made-up book, just because XDDDDD

We watched an interesting video on Thursday about various types of seizures, but I was too busy floating on a cloud of bliss. I might write it up some other day.

Today will be a completely uninformative and useless meme XD

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For the first question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button TWICE

mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (johnnys)
My laptop is still under attack by the BSOD, and every time I try to connect to the net it kicks the bucket. On the other hand, everything else still works, including the USB port (which was itself a cause of BSOD for a while), so I have been writing rather than doing work.......gah.

Two memes~

So, luna_rainbow, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 0% unique and 26% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy writing). When it comes to friends you are normal. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are wary of trusting strangers. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.

Your overall weirdness is: 11

(The average level of weirdness is: 29.
You are weirder than 17% of other LJers.)

Find out what your weirdness level is!

I object to being only 2.6% peculiar. LOL.

I have no idea how they work out the gender thing. Apparently "the" is a masculine keyword, while "if" is a feminine one. Doushite? Dou~~shite??

Speaking of Voice love, I went supper with family friend on Friday and saw a tea stalk floating upright in my cup. I whipped out my phone and took a photo of it like Toma did, then giggled at it like an idiot...like Toma did LOL. Oh well, at least, like Ryosuke said, "when you're depressed you can have a look at it and feel good again"...tte, wakenai deshou.

And it's Kame's birthday today...ish. Well, yesterday, now. Speaking of Kame and therefore of KT, I must make an embarrassing confession - as I was watching their new PV for "One Drop" and wondering why people's faces keep failing to fit inside the frame, I suddenly came upon the sight of Akanishi making this face:

I have to point out that no, I didn't cap him in the middle of winking, but rather he dropped his eyelid into this position and kept it that way for 2 seconds.

So 5 seconds after this particular scene, where my brain tried to reprogram itself to deal with the sight, I cracked up at the screen screaming "OMG, HORNER'S SYNDROME!!!"

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm such a nerd.
mayoraasei: There is no such thing as coincidence (Default)
I'm sitting in front of a heater fan (I must remind you that we are, technically, in the middle of summer, though the weather certainly doesn't agree) waiting for my hair to dry.

I am rather pleased with myself for the last few days, even though I quietly didn't go to uni today XDDD But! I got home after a long day on Sunday and stayed up listening to two anatomy lectures and can now definitively say that neurology is hell and I hate it, and that the Creator designed the central nervous system just to brainscrew medical students. Then I worked today (thus did not go to uni) and listened to the other two lectures I missed. All in all, I understood about 50% of my lectures and need to hunt down a really good neurology book. Or two. Or a few more.

So here's a happy dreams meme nicked from someone, while I'm waiting for bed.

Do you remember your dreams?
I forget some, I remember parts of some, and I remember a lot of others.

What's the best dream you've ever had?
I think in terms of haunting beauty and how much I want to see that waterfall again, this one. Apart from that...maybe one of the ones I had in high school, where though they're still highly tension-strung, at least they had a complete happy ending T-T Maybe I'll write them up some day if anyone's interested =P

What's the worst nightmare you've ever had?
There was one that I had as a child about Mentos which caused me never to eat Mentos ever, even though I'm kinda over it now. I also had one about my bathroom having eyes that blinked and moved - don't read into it since I was nine at the time - but that's a pretty normal nightmare as far as nightmares are concerned.... I've had a few dreams where they can be counted as nightmares except for the fact I wasn't scared at the time...but I think the scariest one I remember is one that I had in high school:

I and a few people (whom I don't remember) were at a mountain temple. The sky got dark and when we tried to leave, it started to rain. There was something wrong with the rain and at first we thought it was corrosive, like acid rain, but when it fell on our hand we realised it was drops of blood. We went back inside the temple, and our guide led us through a corridor to either safety or our beds or something. The corridor walls were painted a grassy sort of green that's gotten old and so has become a slightly sinister plasticky green. As our lamp lights glanced off the smooth walls, we saw that the ceiling was leaking, and the "rain" was seeping through the cracks and down the wall. Believe me...it looked like what blood would look like, rather than some bright red liquid, it was this pale diluted brownish-red colour because it was spread so thin on the green wall, and it was slimy and viscous and moving slowly and looking like it would congeal. It was absolutely disgusting and freaky, because I had no reason to know why blood would look like that!

What's the absolute WEIRDEST dream you've ever had?
I'll go for this one, because it was one of very few not to make much logical sense. To be honest, I find it freaky when dreams make sense.

Can you control your dreams?
If I'm aware I'm dreaming, yes. Sometimes I can go through doors and walls, just because XD

Do you have any recurring dreams?
Only about exams. Or about waking up and going to uni only to wake up and realise I haven't gone to uni, then going to sleep and dreaming this all over again.

Have you ever had a flying dream?
Every now and then. Maybe once a year or so XD

How about one of those dreams where you go to school/work and realize that you're naked?
Nope. Underdressed, sometimes, but never naked. LOL.

Have you ever had a dream that featured characters from a book, movie, or television show?
Yes. Rarely though.

Have you ever had a dream where your teeth fall out?
Yes.

Have you ever dreamed something that later came true?
Well, I think that's part of the reason I don't eat Mentos. Because when I had the dream I was maybe eight? And I've only just heard of the brand, but I had this nightmare where everyone who ate it got controlled or became not themselves, and there were three flavours, one of them being a fruity/colourful one, and each having a different effect. A few weeks later I happened to go to the supermarket and THERE WERE ONLY THREE FLAVOURS on the shelves at the time, INCLUDING A FRUITY ONE. I was so freaked I refuse to touch Mentos.

Bonus question for writers:
Have your characters ever shown up in your dreams?

I think so. Very, very rarely though.

Now~ Off to do some dreaming. Hope I have a good one XD

16 facts

Because I've been tagged by both Annie and [livejournal.com profile] priestnobaka, will do this meme. Sigh. Since Annie tagged me first, will do her version (also because it is 16 and not 19 LOL)

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 16 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 16 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

1. My favourite weather is 18 degrees, windy and sunny. Or 22 degrees and windy and cloudy. I hate hot days. Like today.
2. I've been a fan of tennis since year 10, way before I read Prince of Tennis (which I found pretty boring anyhow), but unfortunately I've never had time to keep up.
3. I like mung bean ice.
4. I had a two turtle mobile accessories, one named Turtleball and the other Turtlebell. I also have a Sootball and a Tofubun.
5. 95% of my favourite characters do not end up with the girl (romance) or die (non-romance). A certain percentage do both.
6. I have a bias against the violin stemming from my viola days XD
7. I have a steady closet love for shoujo manga, but cannot sit through two episodes of shoujo anime without groaning and/or falling asleep.
8. I used to love dark depressing cynical morid stories, but have not gone back to them since high school.
9. I have to use five elastic bands to keep my ponytail up ==;
10. I am short-tempered.
11. I was really against the idea of studying med while I was in high school.
12. I have interesting dreams.
13. I hate liquorice.
14. I like dark chocolate. I don't tend to like milk chocolate. I think white chocolate is not chocolate.
15. I try not to drink coffee until I need it.
16. I do not have a favourite colour.

Long characters meme, which I will this time do properly for anime characters.

In the interests of equity, I will only do male characters from shounen series (uh what?)

First, select ten fictional characters (from any medium) by whichever method you like best. Then answer the questions below.

1. (Hunter x Hunter) Killua Zoldyck
2. (D.Grayman) Allan Walker
3. (Black Cat) Train Heartnet
4. (Gundam Seed) Athrun Zala
5. (Gintama) Hijikata Toshizo
6. (Tsubasa RC) Fai Fluorite (I swear his name sounds like toothpaste)
7. (Inuyasha) Inuyasha
8. (Yakitate Japan) Azuma Kazuma
9. (Saiyuki) Cho Hakkai
10. (Hikaru no Go) Touya Akira

...lol...I haven't read half these stuff in years O__o

Meme, starto! )

Now, to commemorate this meme involving Allen, here's a fanart of him:

Okay seriously ==; I started this picture years ago, when I still read D.Grayman, and I decided to finish it off this year after digging out references for his complicated uniform coat.

I liked Allen, for a while anyway, although that wasn't enough to keep me entertained by a series that came across as a retread of all shounen conventions, albeit in a slightly less annoying way than other shounen. He was sweet and bumbling and yet strong-willed and determined. He was probably the only character that really set this manga apart from others of its ilk. Cold efficient bishounen rival with angsty past, check. Sweet cute girl with no distinguishing personality, check. Funny loud-mouthed but loyal sidekick, check. Random non-descript mascot that makes incoherent cutesy noises, check.

I know D.Grayman has other merits, and it's probably gotten better than the first 100 chapters I read, but I totally understand why it has been described as a series of deja vus.

It's terrible, I've done more fanart this year than I have in my entire life...

...There must be a mathematical flaw in the above sentence O__o;

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Wednesday I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [livejournal.com profile] nicky87 (-5000 points). Last month I broke [livejournal.com profile] a_cryptic's X-Box (-12 points). In September I gave change to a homeless guy (19 points). Last Thursday I ruled Iran as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In October I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-5367 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

Sincerely,

LOL.......wow, I have been busy! I committed genocide on one day and then was a dictator for the next (LOL)

Lumps of coal are useful, in winter =D They say in Chinese..."to bring coal in the snow" (to help when someone most needs it) =D

Went and had a look at my OSCE papers today (short clinical examinations exam). Pretty much passed all of them, but this exam isn't counted until next year, which means it makes no difference to whether I pass this year or not =___=

One of the guys was such a lazybum (a nice...lazybum nevertheless). He ticked satisfactory for everything, even though I'm sure he led me through the entire thing LOL. I wish we got him for clinical tutor, would've helped with those chest X-rays. The knee exam guy was lazybum without the nice part =/ He just wrote "adequate" for comments. Constructive, indeed. Okay, even though I only forgot to do two things out of the entire list...still, constructive helps construction...er what?
