Asked if Falun Gong - banned as a cult in China - would be raised, he said: "The Falun Gong cult is sabotaging the relationship. This is indeed to serve their own evil interests and political agenda. We are confident that with concerted efforts from the two governments we can successfully exclude them from interfering with this visit."

About Australia's uranium deal

The only thing sabotaging any economic relationship between China and democratic societies is its own reputation for the absolute disregard of human lives and human rights.

Falun Gong is hardly the only human rights problem currently occuring in China, although it is one of the most extreme, widespread and well-concealed. There are active Christian groups in Australia (one of them appeared in the June 4th protest last year in support) who are dedicated to bringing to attention the persecution of Christian communities within China. Even more persecutions of people exist that we would probably never get wind of, given the state of tightly controlled communication channels. Apart from persecuted democratic activists, most of the victims wouldn't even have cared about political reform until they became the victims.

One another thing, after The Epochtimes revealed the existence of a concentration camp in China specialising in the trading of inmate organs, almost immediately its offices in America, Taiwan and Japan were broken into, sabotaged, and all its computer harddrives stolen. This clearly eliminates the suspicion of simple theft (and certainly isn't being treated as one by local police officers). It's perfectly okay to claim that The Epochtimes is a tabloid newspaper, but if you have done nothing wrong, if you aren't afraid of being exposed, surely a powerful country like China would not be afraid of false accusations. Attempting to shut down avenues of speech just adds to the suspicion that there is something wrong.

Australia has 30 or 40% of the world's uranium, I think? It's scary to have a energy-rich resource like that in our country. Today's war is over oil, tomorrow war will probably be right here over uranium (fantastic!) and the day after's war is probably over water...

One thing I don't get, though... why is the Chinese government targeting the Falun Gong moreso than other religions? Buddhism and Taoism are, in comparison, left well alone. You don't just pick one random group and screw them over without a worthy purpose (ethical or unethical). It's even more bizarre that Falun Gong was a new religion that was initially encouraged by the Chinese government.

The Epoch Times is a weird paper. Their writing style isn't meant for a newspaper.
