Rather pissed off at Yuu Watase's cheating way of ending the story.

(End of volume 4) After Night's fight with Toshiki, he starts malfunctioning and Kronos' Heavens recalls him. However, he wakes up in the middle of his treatment and demands stubbornly to meet Riiko. Unable to dissaude him, Kronos sends him back in the chibi form (which is actually a miniature sample figurine). The black-haired money-obsessed girl notices him while he was having an argument with Soushi and "borrows" him from Riiko. Night accidentally sees a huge, sprawling burn scar on her back, and we get her past: her parents died in the same fire that left her with that scar. Her grandfather took her in and taught her "money is everything", because they both believed that no one would marry her. Night cheers her up with your usual main character idealistic optimism, and she agrees to keep the secret for Riiko.

Kronos then contacted them and said that Night's main body can't be repaired. With a mixture of threats, bribes and incessant nagging, Gaku (the Weird Salesman with a Kansai accent) brings them to Kronos Heaven's main factory - in fact, Kronos exists in the future (when they have the technology to make such authentic figures), and they travelled through a time warp (here I'm starting to think that Watase is reaaaaaaaaallllly stretching it). They return Night to his body and goes back to the present time. Kronos sends other figures after Night in an attempted "hunt down and destroy" quest. During the chase, Riiko seems to realise that she does like Night more than Soushi. In the end Gaku and Yuki (the kid that worked for Kronos) felt sorry for the two of them and gave them a little reprieve, even though they knew it would cost them their jobs.

Gaku rented a hotel room for Riiko and Night to rest (so that Kronos loses their trail for the night, anyway), and finally, something happens in the hotel room. Yes, it's that something. So anyway, after their joyful first time together, Night appears to have recovered and bounces around all energetic and...asking for more. *Ahem*

Soushi suddenly announces that he's going to Spain. All the friends (and figures) threw a farewell party for them. Night says some cryptic things to Soushi about how that he feels reassured that Soushi doesn't seem to have let go of his feelings for Riiko yet.

Soushi leaves for Spain, and for a while, Night and Riiko are happily living together, but Night is developing a habit of sleeping all the time. Yuki and Gaku were still observing them, but Yuki decides that Night seems fine and stops. Night suddenly pops up behind Gaku and tells him that "there's a favour he wants to ask". Riiko goes out to buy things, and when she came back, Gaku had Night in a plastic suit.

His explanation was, "Even though he appeared to have recovered, what really happened was that the damage to his system got worse. It was pretty much a 'last burst of energy', and his constant need for sleep is just his system trying to recharge some life back into him." In human terms, Night is dead.

Gaku took Night back to Kronos, and with lots of (I'd imagine) blackmailing, stopped the company from discarding Night's body in the event that they should develop the technology to restart him. Riiko takes a while coming to terms with it, and she was never able to find the ring that she bought for Night since he "died". And suddenly! Guess who appears?!

Honestly, when I got to this part, I thought it was going to have a Fushigi Yuugi ending (you know, Taka popping up and saying....oooh, I'm the reincarnation of Tamahome *stab stab stab*).

BUT NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! IT WAS DAMN SOUSHI!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!

Anyway, it seems that before Night "died", he gave his ring to Gaku, and told him to contact Soushi once Riiko has recovered somewhat. So Soushi got the ring about half a year after Night "died". Soushi starts renting an apartment near Riiko and looks after her again.

But what's a little forgiveable about it is that even though she ended up physically together with Soushi, it appears that Riiko still loves Night the most. There's no indication that Riiko has proceeded to anything romantic with Soushi, and she seems willing to wait for Night to return to her, however long it takes.

...For a very comical shoujo, it was a pretty unhappy ending.
