Really???????
Kudos to the author for being tough but wow.
I mean I have no sympathy for Yuka at all (would otherwise have been a little more sad) but wow. I don't get why everyone is so attached to her (apart from Mikan dur) but I feel sorry for the guys left behind. AGAIN.
I hope Tsubasa isn't going to be copping major flak from the other characters now.
* The key "Tsubasa" passed to Yuka blows up in the keyhole as you know from last chapter
* Narumi was standing next to Yuka so the two of them fall through to the room after the explosion, but Yuka took the bulk of the hit. Narumi wakes up to see Yuka bloody and unconscious. He's pretty badly injured himself but she's blood-soaked.
* As the children cluster around, Natsume hands the healing Alice stone to Mikan and Shiki urges her to implant it. Yuka comes around a little after that. Mikan clutches Yuka crying but Yuka's condition continues to deteriorate.
* Luna looks totally shattered by the turn of events and thinks to herself that "to go this far...doesn't seem like something PSP would do". As Tono and Misaki run onto the scene asking what happened, Luna tells them to call for help. Ah Luna, your heart of gold is showing through =3=
* In the fluster, "Tsubasa" quietly turns away and becomes Gojima, and leaves. -- So he's not only been instrumental to the explosion (in spite of the primary school principal demanding that the two of them be caught), he's also witnessed Mikan's implantation Alice, and also Luna's change of heart. Also, is she building up an ulterior motive for Gojima? It's kind of weird. Unless Yuka made some huge enemy somehow during her Alice extraction days? Like Gojima saw her take Alice from his parents and wants revenge? I'm thinking too much.
* Cut to Tsubasa et co, wondering what happened at the High School building.
* Cut to Imai siblings, Sakurai and Jinno. Sakurai's telepathic right? Anyway the others wonder if something was going on again, but Sakurai interrupts them and says something horrible seemed to have happened and they need to make their way there now.
* Mikan is trying to keep her mum responsive. Two of the school guards tell her to shove and bring over first aid material. Mikan - in spite of being normally silly and scatter-brained, makes the sharp observation that the two of them were controlled by Luna's Alice.
* Would just like to add Misaki is busy tending to Naru XDDD
* Yuka catches Luna's eye and says, "I'm sorry, Luna."
* HER LAST WORDS OMFG DON'T YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO MIKAN???
* The two guards say her pulse has stopped. GIVE CPR!!! SOAK HER IN COLD WATER!!! GIVE INTRAVENOUS FLUIDS!!! DEFIB IF IT WAS VT!!! .........Sorry......
* Luna screams for Yuka overlaid Mikan screaming for her mum...joined by Naru screaming for "senpai".
* Hotaru and Sakurai and MOST IMPORTANTLY SUBARU THE HEALING ALICE finally arrive at the scene to see Shiki collapsed in a corner on his knees, Mikan hunched over a still Yuka and a group of people hanging their heads in sorrow.
* In a distant world, Yuka opens her eyes to find herself being scooped gently in a man's arms. Yuka says, "I'm sorry sensei, I didn't have the chance to look after Mikan." Yukihira, "It's okay, it's enough." LIKE HELL IT IS. "Yuka, thank you, you've tried your best until now." Yuka's hair suddenly become as it was in high school and she embraces Yukihira.
* The two of them are in their wedding gear...for the wedding they were never able to have.
OH MAN. THAT HIT LOW AND HARD.
I really have not been able to connect with Yuka at all, so I don't think I'm going to miss her. It's a bit cheap to say, but it feels like she entered this story, made everyone's lives miserable, and then left just before she got useful. I'm sad for all the people whose lives she managed to screw up by her existence/reappearance - namely Shiki, Narumi, Luna, Mikan and all the schoolkids who got injured/locked up/otherwise involved in this great escapade only to have it derail literally in the last second.
I am surprised that she killed Yuka off, though I'm not surprised that their plan to leave the school got unhinged. I really couldn't envision the story going on outside of the school. I'm guessing this is now the final showdown and the series is drawing to a close within a few volumes.
Can we please have a few happy bits before it ends? Like it used to be? Thanks.

So far I can't see how Mikan's life has been improved in the slightest by having Yuka come into it. Gah, Yuka, you are useless.

Date: 2010-09-23 12:16 pm (UTC)On the other hand I thought the last minute decision to take Naru with her a bit of a deus ex machina. Do you realise that she's been with Shiki for 11+ years now (Mikan's age)?? She hasn't seen Naru except just for the last few days and once 10 volumes back. I refuse to believe someone has more feelings for a kid she hasn't seen in forever and had never had any romantic love for in the first place, than the guy who's given up everything in his life and been by her side and supported her every move and decision for 11 years. I mean I'm not saying I like Shiki more than Narumi but logically that just doesn't make sense. I'm not even saying in that scene she chose Naru over Shiki, but her sudden determination to take him seemed too much of a set-up for the key.
If all she wanted was to have the key blow up in Yuka's face, at least it could have been for another reason, like Mikan insisting taking Natsume out because he was that sick and would not survive in the school. Or something.
It would be cool if she killed Natsume XDDD It would be so wholly unexpected and yet fitting. I can't foresee a happy ending without it being forced and a bit cheesy. I mean, the magazine is published in Hana to Yume after all, home to Yuki Kaori's great tragedies, so it's not like she's writing for Ribon's audience.
