An interesting study for what it reveals about gender expectations and identity in these times.

In other news, Ruse came first again (what a surprise lol) and our school second...hmm. Also, they apparently achieved much better than us ^0^ Ah...I think our year is over-represented by lazy-asses *cough*

Belinda: if you've learnt IRC, according to this site which is what I use to check for daily releases even though it's in French by default, Fruits Basket was released by #soul-society @ irc.irchighway.net but curiously, it's not on the group's projects list. If you click on the title (Fruits Basket) at Dailymanga, they have a list of scanlators who did or are doing it. Check for the newer releases: it seems like this group has the most newest releases (this group's doing quite a few licensed series).

Some fans are wondering if the whole Akito thing was planned out from the beginning or just a spur-of-moment twist she added in later. The anime has Akito voiced by a guy, and in one earlier chapter at least, Akito did wear a very tight shirt...and erm, considering the image at the end of c98? 97? She has a fairly spectacular pair of chests, if I may say so myself >__>;;;

But whether she planned it or no, I think it explains their characters quite perfectly. Akito is curiously harsher towards the female juunishi and girls involved with the male juunishi: beating up Kisa when Hiro liked her, Isuzu for going out with Hatsuharu, driving Kana away, and attacking Tooru. I'm not sure why she didn't do anything to Kagura, maybe she sensed that Kagura's feelings were murky and also because it was involving Kyou. The way Akito acts around the men are also fairly...intimate and almost flirtatious, if not for the fact she's usually threatening them or telling them how much they suck. She is quite less so with Isuzu, and her main reason for belting out at Isuzu was her supposed "promiscuity", which probably ties in with Shigure and Ren's deeds and feelings. The confrontation with Tooru in volume 12 is also something of that nature, because she is vexed that "Tooru is important" to almost all the juunishi: Yuki, Kyou... The final straw had been Shigure acting cool towards Akito on purpose to make her think that Tooru is also more important.

On Shigure's part, he has, on several occasions announced that "the most dirty one is me". This does link to his relationship with Ren and Akito, but I think we're still only glimpsing the surface of what his role will be. I think the juunishi understands that he is rather...erm...too interested in women, which may be exactly why Isuzu turned up at his door dressed like a slut. I still don't understand what how the "dream" ties in with all these muddled feelings. When he dreamt about the "God" being born, he was so moved that he cried. I think it's a bit bizarre to think that these feelings were shallow enough to be converted to some sort of warped possessiveness towards Akito. He seems to want to break the curse and has somehow decided to drag Tooru into all this. Is this for himself alone, or does his feelings for Akito become involved too? Why did he allow Tooru to come in, and why did Akito agree?

I wonder if it had been Kyouto that became the deciding factor for Tooru to become "chosen". After all, Kyou had seemed quite attached to his memories of Kyouto, and we still don't know whether Kyouto's parents had any relationship with the Souma's. Sooner or later, we'll be seeing Arisa and Hanajima getting dragged into this, especially Arisa and Kureno's relationship....though I'm still thinking that relationship was a bit abrupt.

That article IS pretty interesting. I have to agree with some of those comments, nowadays, just because you don't label yourself a feminist DOESN'T mean you won't have an excellent career. It's a bit of a shame how the majority of those surveyed males didn't really mention equality. Eh, but who knows, maybe that survey was biased in some way.

Now to the FB spoilers. Highlight! ^^

Hmm I'm still iffy about the idea of Shigure/Akito. Firstly, as mentioned, she did wear tight shirts that showed no signs of a chest. Did she have to bind her chest? And I'm just thinking, if she had been raised as a boy, she might have been given hormone therapy (lots of testosterone) maybe. Perhaps that could partially explain her aggression? That and most probably psychological abuse throught her development.

As for Shi, I think he still has some big plan up his sleeve, I don't see him just confessing/sleeping to/with Akito would end his conniving self. I just can't see him as the sappy type!

I'm inclined to agree. Shi-chan is just a touch too sneaky to be so simply read.

I agree too. I don't think we've seen all of Shigure's conspiracies yet. I just wonder what the mangaka's going to use as justification - his feelings for Akito or completely his own selfish desires.

Err...I doubt the testosterone thing though LOL ^^;
