I should stop forgetting that I have a caffeine-sensitive constitution and not randomly binge drink 350mL flat whites and go home feeling on anxiety hyperdrive =_______=

I am so incredibly bored so I am actually bothering to write a review for something that's a continuation.

Code Blue 2
Rumour has it that the first episode rated 18.8, which is the highest a Gekku has been for a while (although Tokyo Dogs did come in at 18.7), and probably the best first episode result for a Johnny's-led series since Kimura's CHANGE.

It delivers on its promises.....but whether that's a good or bad thing is another matter. Last season was more about conflicts, and we got only a passing mention of the characters' backgrounds (except for Aizawa/Yamashita who spent 2 episodes crying blank-faced, which is probably a feat in itself).

They promised this season to introduce more of the characters' personal lives. It makes sense in one respect because a year has passed and the characters would have matured. The story is not so much about their initiation as their continual maturation into their professional role.

Most of its strengths are still there: well-paced, strong characterisations, well-scripted and moving. The major complaint I have is with Saejima, who was such a cold-faced biatch (but in a cool way XD) last season but spent a quarter of the episode in tears. I'm also a bit uncertain about the introduction of romance, whether it's the crush Fujikawa has on Saejima, or the past lovers gig between the older doctors.

One thing I do like is that they've made a point about Hiyama/Erika's injury sustained from the SP and that she's not only still living with the trauma but also the continuing health effects. This might lead to a very interesting side story for her character, which will be awesome because I have faith in her acting skills =D Besides, I am inexplicably fond of bitchy Erika ♥

On the other hand, Shiraishi/Aragaki hasn't changed much and was in danger of fading into an extra during the episode Orz

The second season gives fans what they want, and some more, without being too obvious about its intentions. It's kept what has sold it rather than try to appeal to a broader audience, and as long as they don't go too heavy-handed on the character relationships, it should at least keep its original fan base.

Too bad I don't do critical care until next year XDD
