It's one of those wonderful Boxing Day releases that you'd safely take your 6-year-old cousin to watch and still enjoy yourself laughing at the jokes.

If Stardust was meant to be some parody of an adult fairytale, then Enchanted is a Disney princess film through and through, just with a delightful self-mocking twist.

In the land by a typical fantasy name which I can't remember, the evil Queen is determined to do everything to stop her stepson Edward from marrying and deposing her from her throne, including keeping the innocent young girl Giselle imprisoned in the forest. But by Destiny (quite literally - Destiny being the name of his horse), Edward and Giselle meet, sing a song and ride into the sunset with the promise of marrying each other in the morning.

Upon arriving at the castle for her wedding, Giselle is conned by the evil Queen and falls into a well, which connects that world with the sewer system in New York...and after a series of misadventures on the streets, she falls...again, rather literally...into the life of world-weary cynical divorce lawyer, Robert.

What follows, follows the tried and true recipe of Disney princess stories - a princess touching lives with her generosity and kindness, the evil witch and her unscrupulous plans, the singing, the dancing, and of course, the romantic happily ever after.

The movie starts off in traditional 2D Disney animation, and reminds us how wonderfully bright and fluid Disney's animation can be. It switches to real actors when the story moves to New York, and Amy Adams does a beautiful job of maintaining continuity, every twist and turn and lift of hand and widened eyes perfectly mimicking Disney's animated heroines.

And both me and Carmen agree that Mr Robert McDreamy *cough* is hot XD ...Hey, I've never watched Grey's, and he didn't do much except scowl in the background in Freedom Writers, and he had no presence whatsoever in Sweet Home Alabama. Prince Edward Charming is a cardboard character that could have been played by any pretty face, and James Marsden looks better in still photos..............LOL. And no wonder obsequious henchman Nathaniel looked so familiar - he was Peter Pettigrew!!!!!!!

The movie ends of course, with the vanquishing of a badly animated glittering beast, in a blink-and-you'll-miss it way. ........We blinked.

I loved the chipmunk though?

If you're looking for a fairytale this summer, you'd best find something else (and probably not Northern Lights/Golden Compass). Leave Enchanted for the kids...even if it does have enough cute jokes (and Patrick Dempsey, if you're that way inclined =/) to keep you awake.

......HAPPY BOXING DAY!!!!!!!......Because I missed Christmas XDD
