I'm putting myself through the animated hell that is Gundam Wing. 5 years ago I used to like this anime.......without having ever seen a proper episode of it =_____=;;;;;;;

Well, through an extended downloading effort (that took place over a month *sighs*), I have now begotten the entire 49 episodes of the series plus Endless Waltz.

I have watched 6 episodes, because I'm running out of things to watch. I didn't seem particularly enchanted with any of the anime this season....or maybe two seasons of fervently downloading anime (without actually watching them) have turned me off? It's such a bother when things come out in 20-minute bites. I suspect that might have contributed to why I disliked Gundam Seed Destiny so intensely but felt much better about Gundam Seed.

Anyway, back to GW....it's so slooooooooooooow. I know people complain about GSeed being slow from episode 10 onwards (when all the diplomatic talks start piling on), but it's nothing compared to GW, which STARTS at an excruciating pace. Having Chinese subtitles with dodgy Engrish pronunciations of what is patently Anglicised names and places and people....just makes all that talk about OZ and the Federation and all these names with over 5 Chinese characters (and about 10 Japanese syllables) fly like....small invisible flying bugs.....over my head.

And just 3 episodes of Relena had made me feel justified in my perpetual desire to throttle her. Although I like her hairstyle, damn. "Heero~~~ Come kill me~~~" Uh, right. "Oh noes my daddy is dying! ......I wanna see Heero~~~"

*Feels incredible urge to seize the Gundam from Heero and squash Relena in its great mechanical fists with a loud satisfying squelch*

I'm going squee all over Duo and Quatre again ^0^ It's so amazing hearing Duo's voice and trying to think "this is Rey....no, this is Raww.....no, this is...." (On the other hand, it is totally not cool hearing Zechs' voice and go...."Oh. Koyasu Takehito. Again." Man, the oji-san never changes his tune.) Trowa is cool too, although the violin and the flute thing is just a little too much cheese on the icing.

I totally hail the "Heero is a constipated Tamahome" now. Totally. In fact, if a Tamahome is a constipated Seiran, and a Heero is a constipated Tamahome, a Heero is a Seiran with a severe need for medical attention. And Seiran is sooooo muuuuuch cooooooooler (and prettier - but that's no comparison as everyone in Saiunkoku is creepily pretty unless they're evil, in which case they're even prettier.) *Snips a long internal monologue about how cool (and evil) Seiran is*

After 6 episodes I still have no idea what's going on. Okay, after 6 episodes of GSeed, I didn't have much idea of what was going on outside their mad space chase, but at least I wanted to keep watching. GW's greatest failing is probably trying to introduce so many major characters all at once, each with their plot line, and trying to make us care about all of them all at once......

Come to think of it, that's where GS Destiny fell flat on its face too. Maybe Fukuda should learn from past mistakes. LIKE KEEPING ATHRUN AND CAGALLI TOGETHER UNLESS HE WANTS TO FACE THE WRATH OF MAD RAVING ASUCAGA FANS. [/end aside] (Yes, I know GW wasn't Fukuda's fault, but he should have learned nevertheless.)

At the moment I don't hate Heero, at least not in the way I intensely dislike Kenshin, for example. Or in the way that I need to liquefy Tamahome, for another example. Or in the way I want to go bankai on Naruto, for another other example. But he's so immensely boring that you really don't give a damn if he actually succeeds in immolating himself for once - at least then there would be some pretty colours.

I may be wrong, but GW is probably one of the few Gundam series produced in a time of relative global peacefulness. Maybe that's why it seemed so confused as to what it's trying to say about warfare. GS and GSD had the (mis)fortune of being concurrent with the Iraq problem, in which Japan also took part, and the messages are much more poignant and convinced.

I might have put my foot in my mouth somewhere....so let's see how I feel when.....if....ever....I finish watching this thing.

(Sorry about filling up my FList with this long rant XD Oh well, for most of you guys, GW was a thing of the past, so it's nice to refresh your memory! =P)

I have watched another 4 episodes of this and oh, my eyes bleed!

I'm not going to start by saying that GSeed was much better because it probably wasn't. Kira and Athrun made me go "aww" enough times in the first two episodes to make me permanently besotted with the series. It helped that they made me go "aww" all the way until the end of GSD, unlike some other unpopular main character (He's actually quite popular-- Shut up).

Uh. I'll just hereby clarify that that was Kira and *independent clause* Athrun, not Kira and Athrun. There's a difference, and if you don't know what, it's best not to ask.

It's just that Fukuda's chosen a clever reason for war - genetic/racial differences. It's practically what's driven human warfare ever since the first man picked up a stone and said, "Ho, that other guy over there, his eyes are of a prettier colour than mine...DEMON!" It's a motivation that is and will most likely always be current. After 10 episodes of GW there's still no hint about why there has to be a war in the first place. And why they'd sent a bunch of kids who apparently have very little idea what's actually important in a battle. At least in GSeed, Kira was forced into battle, not volunteered.

At least in GSeed, the "foolish" choices made on battlefield were difficult, sentimental and made with hesitation (or rashness), but never just because someone needed to show off ==; In GW there's a pronounced flippancy about everything, and who cares, if they don't?

And Treize should take a lesson from the Evil Overlord list. Why would you spare someone who's causing so much destruction and disruption to your troops?

It's just not making sense, and it would be nice to have a hint somewhere that explains where all these super skilled yet dumb/naive kids came from. I know we get a treatment of their past eventually, but at the moment it's just WTF all the way.

In other news, Jetstar scored just 62 per cent, with one respondent describing Jetstar staff as "uniformly surly, unhelpful and most definitely unwelcoming". - ADD ME TO THAT 62%!!!!! Their staff are a bunch of prigs who should all go back to their customer service training. They probably get a lot of flak, because as soon as I tried to explain any situation to them, they automatically assumed I was accusing them of something.
