One should not go charging into random fandoms to read summaries made by slash fans, even if said fandom is something as seemingly innocuous as NCIS............

Wow, didn't know the Gibbs/Tony pairing was so......popular.

Rediscovered what it was about slash that made me nauseous ==;;;;

And this may be sort of contradictory, but anyone seen the new Vodafone ads? "Dad, I'm pregnant." "Oops." and the second one, "Dad, I'm gay." "Excellent."

...The first made me laugh, but I kind of wonder about the second.

The ad is made so that you would laugh at it. On the surface, its message is that "you don't have to keep your conversations so short".

But when you think about it, the deeper implications of this ad is that it is considered the norm that the dad would freak out and "have a proper discussion with his son about his sexuality" - as though this is something that should be worth discussing, as though the son's mind can be changed about this. It's promoting the message that "if your children come out of the closet, you need to TALK™" when in fact the ideal (according to the social trend) would be exactly as it was shown in the ad.

While I'm a fence-sitter on this debate, I'm surprised that such an implicitly homophobic ad would be rolled out by such a big company.
