[Australia's] famous cake is Sachertorte and their famous pastry is the Berliner
The whaa? From the pictures they look like a double mud cake with jam sandwiched between them, and Berliner looks like an English muffin with coconut sprinkled on two sides and jam between them. Anyone heard of these stuff? O__o; I've never seen them around (then again, I'm not a big fan of jam-based pastry)
Jam is an important part of Australian food culture
...We have a food culture? >__>; I thought the infamous barbie was the pinnacle of our culinary distinction >___>;;;;;
The French often say that "even a grade schooler can bake bread", but in Australia, even kindergarteners can make jam!
...And they all became hospitalised with food poisoning. Since the great tragedy of 1993 when 8 grandfathers died from severe cases of diarrhoea caused by the inadequate preparation of fruit jam by kindergarten age children, the government passed a legislation enforcing a minimum jam-making age of 18.
...No, really.
