Spent today and yesterday watching HxH ==; I don't know how I'm going to get the rest of the episodes when it comes in a 7GB batch *dies*.

The anime moves slower than the manga, which is to be expected, I think. Some of the additions are good, some of them really go OOC. Killua is one of the few assassins that doesn't ANGST about being an assassin. I don't think it really matters to him when he kills, as long as has nothing to do with his friends. He didn't leave home because he didn't WANT to be an assassin, he hasn't decided that yet. He left because he wanted to see what a normal life would be like. He does NOT have a problem with his dad ==; In fact, from what I saw in the manga, they're a happy family...if a little...outside the boundaries of normality.

The episode in the tunnel was particularly bad ==; More than enough of Leorio and Kurapica angst. And the airship has waaaaaaay too much Killua angst. Oh, and I see the whole blaargh about Leorio x Kurapica now, though I prefer not to x__x And I can see plenty of Gon x Killua stuff that yaoi fans are bound to pick up on.

Ugh. I don't know. The whole appeal about HxH manga is that the depth of their friendships is so subtle. The independent, arrogant Killua following Gon and respecting his decisions even if they seem downright silly. Kurapica's indecision when revenge is within his hands, because Killua and Gon were at risk. Gon, Leorio and even Killua asked for a nen chain around their heart as a promise to guard Kurapica's secret, and Kurapica's subsequent refusal, based totally on trust. Then despite not being asked for help, Gon, Killua and Leorio all do their best to help Kurapica fight against the Genei Ryodan in York Shin city. None of them need each other, but having each other, it makes them stronger.

The angst too, is very subtle. Kurapica never makes a big deal out of his pursuit of the Genei Ryodan; and makes sure that he never involves, let alone bother, any of his friends in his revenge. The same is the case with Killua - he does have his problems with the way his family is training him to be an assassin, otherwise he wouldn't have lost control during the last round of the Hunter exam, but that is the only moment of vulnerability we see in him. Even at home, when he is being punished, he looks completely at ease. Both Kurapica and Killua - and Leorio too - keep their own problems away from their friends. Killua rarely complains to Gon, and when he does, it seems more like whingeing in good humour than actual angsting. Kurapica is always, always cool-headed and in control (unlike in the anime, UGH), which is what makes York Shin city such a special arc, because we do see Kurapica at a loss...and again, it is the only moment of vulnerability that Kurapica displays. The fact that it had been due to his friends when he hesitated in his pursuit of revenge is another subtle suggestion of how much the friendship meant to him, without all the retarded background music, starry tears, supposedly meaningful looks...and what not.

If all the angst in Fruits Basket had vapourised when it got turned into anime (except for the last two episodes), then they must have recondensed in higher concentrations in HxH x__x
