Starts with Kira snatching Cagalli from her wedding
- Mirialla's meeting with Athrun where he mentions Dearka is removed. She's on AA from the start.
- There's 3 old veterans who salute AA as she submerges, whereas before it was just Todaka.
- Dullindal reveals being "evil" earlier on, as he muses that Shinn's SEED has "awakened" he says that "it must be him, who will take down Kira Yamato".
- Poor Athrun. He's so lost. Muahaha. Shinn's cuter. It's still hard to imagine the perky Lunamaria being Haruhi. The meeting with Shinn, and Athrun who is now in FAITH, is more polite (formal) this time.
- Athrun's narration more or less gives better insight to why he joined ZAFT, and makes it easier to understand why he's moping (since he now mopes with narration).
- Lunamaria flirting with Athrun scenes are cut (thank god).
- Mwu shows that despite his amnesia, he's still an excellent onfield commander.
- Athrun slapping Shinn makes more sense now that it's more closely juxtaposed with his disobedience.
- Athrun has better lines this time when he tells Shinn off!!
- The bit where Shinn gets through dark cave is severely compressed, but it's sweet seeing Athrun smiling at Shinn's success. But Athrun says some interestingly cynical things about warfare.
- Shinn's always adjusting his collar ==;
- Rey wasn't quite as excited when he met Dullindal again.
- Talia always gives Dullindal suspicious glares.
- They added a really cute scene of Kira fiddling with Lacus' Haro while she watches on (dressed in that black ninja outfit ==;;;) He also has more clothes choices this time ==;;; Poor guy.
- Omission of most of Mia flirting with Athrun, thank God.
- Shortened a lot of Shinn saving Stellar ==; Stellar goes crazy again at hearing the word death. Shinn tells her he'll protect her and she remembers Neo. The whole emotional thing feels really rushed, unfortunately.
- Lunamaria picks Shinn up instead of Athrun.
- Auel glares really angrily at Shinn and Lunamaria.
- Heine doesn't even get a proper introduction, poor guy ==; ZAFT soldiers are pretty chummy with a lot of Earth residents.
- Heine's words make more sense, even though I'm sure they're exactly the same as before ~~;;;
Heine: What are you fighting against?
Athrun: Eh?! What am I fighting against...that is...
Heine: Ah ha! I got it right, didn't I? It's the same for me.
Athrun: Eh?
Heine: That's it, isn't it? Get it off your mind. We're in a war right now, and we're soldiers. It's kill or be killed.
- Shinn's still a bit pissy as they go to war against Orb at Dardanelles, and Athrun continues to be cooler (and make more sense) in his lines XDD
- Kira/Freedom charges just before ZAFT annihilates Orb's troops with the same aplomb (and with extra fanfare...wtf).
- With most of the Dardanelles battle omitted, it's hard to decide who's right or wrong when Yuna decides to eliminate Cagalli and AA. In the original he actually had fairly pragmatic reasons.
- Kira goes SEED and kicks ass to his own song from SEED ==; (Not sung by him, thank god)
- The Heine versus Stellar fight looks cooler, but is also infinitely shorter.
- Cagalli's still crying ==;
- Poor Athrun, still trying to get contact with Kira ==;
- No one seems to know Freedom outside Orb. Shinn: WTF is that? ARGH!! Auel: Wheee~~~~~~....EH?!? Heine: WTF?! Stellar: WTF?!? Athrun: KIRA!!! KIRA! DAMN THIS [radio that doesn't work]!!!
- I really have to dig out the old episodes to check Heine's death. He says, "Who do you think you are?" before he tackles Kira (and gets kicked away), and then he flies into the path of Stellar as she launches her attack. Some people say that this gives more of an impression that Heine was provoking/antagonistic towards Kira, so he wasn't innocent in his death. Then again, I never thought he was.
Overall: It is, again, extremely rushed. It's really not something that one should watch instead of the series. It really doesn't have time to settle into the moods of the series, which in some aspects is good (Athrun and Cagalli moping, for one thing), but in others it makes the relationships less convincing (Stellar especially).
Individual scenes and the dialogue make MUCH MORE SENSE now. Athrun is actually *gasp* cool!! And Shinn is cuter. Kira appears much less (in this episode anyway).
I went back and read X volume 16 yesterday. It's related because Shinn's voice actor did Kamui, and they're both mopey characters who didn't get all that much fan-love (awww). As someone said once, everyone flocked to X to see Subaru, and everyone flocked to GSD to see Kira (awww).
I realised that Kamui is actually really sweet, in the same way that Shinn is ==; It's the kind that you don't usually notice and will probably never notice because by the time it comes through, you're already sick to death of the character.
I also realised why I loved X so much, even though I complain non-stop about CLAMP's marketing ploys. Whatever their commercial techniques, CLAMP's art is beyond a doubt amongst the best in the industry. The symbolism in the construction of panels and the contrast between Subaru and Seishirou...it's obvious, but it's not patronisingly obvious, and CLAMP's flowing, wordless beauty is really quite breath-taking in the empty, sakura petal-filled blackness.
And in the neat, self-contained young man he has become, the shadow of sweet innocent Subaru remains...in the frank, honest gaze and the neverending reserves of gentleness.

THE 8AM CLASSES ARE KILLING ME AAAAARRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!
I went to Kino today. Was standing in the Jap section when a guy crept (I swear, he looked nervous) up to me and asked if I could read Jap, to which I replied "Not really". But he enlisted my "help" anyway and asked how he would known whether the artbooks are coloured or not, and I said "They usually are." And added, "I've bought a few and they were coloured," for good measure. He seemed convinced. I should probably have advised him that my version of "usually" has less frequency than "often".
...When I got back I realised, hmm, his eyes were a really really dark green O___o;;;
