I shall endeavour to summarise Furuba 18 later today ~~;;;
Thanks
a_cryptic for the manga ^^;
This episode takes most of the plotline from the original, but also pushes the timeline forward a little.
A girl is walking along a street in the middle of the night and gets attacked by Gyanza (the Afro guy with big muscles). Two IBI agents runs in on the scene and tries to arrest Gyanza, but get killed. Before he killed them, Gyanza demanded to know where Sven Vollfed is, but they didn't know.
Sven et co are driving towards the town on information Rinslet provided. He's the only target left for the Taoists to give the Shinkitou (the liquid that gives Taoist powers) and so she wants them to help get to him before the Taoists do. Train's ears perks up when he hears the word Tao. They then split paths, Rinslet going after the Taoists and Gyanza is left to the three of them.
Sven is unusually solemn and so Train stops complaining about Rins. When they arrived in the city, Train disappears to...find milk (instead of gathering information like he's supposed to). Instead, he finds Kyouko being surrounded by a bunch of thugs. Before she can breathe fire on them, Train brandishes his gun and knocks all of them out.
Kyouko is suddenly in love with her saviour. Train complains that all the shops are closed and there's no milk left, and Kyouko says, "I'm available!!" She tries to zoom in for a kiss and Train stuffs a cat in her face.
Train makes a getaway, and she shouts after him for a name. He replies with "kuroneko" (黑貓), and she thereafter calls him Kuro-sama. Kyouko then runs back to Charden and reports everything in fangirl mode.
They go to Gyanza's hideout and get accosted by three thugs, who want "that" from them. Charden hands them a bottle of Shinkitou, and when one of them greedily gobbles it up, he dies. The other two try to attack them and get killed by the Taoist powers.
Sven is trying to break into the police radio to find news and Train drops in through the door complaining that he's hungry. Sven hands Train a dress and tells him to be bait...in the end they decided by flipping a coin and Sven lost.
So there is Sven, crossdressing =________=||||||||||||||
The only person he managed to attract was a fellow drag queen.......=_________=|||||||||||||||||
Eve and Train are up on the roof sniggering.
Rins goes to the hideout that was trashed earlier and is disappointed when she finds the Shinkitou bottle empty.
Train et co hear a loud crash somewhere away and Train takes off immediately. Eve runs after Train and Sven is left tripping on the ground in his high heels..........=_______=||||||
Gyanza has popped out of the sewers in front of Kyouko, who complains that he broke the promise. He threatens to crush her and Train shoots him a few times, to no avail.
Train punches Gyanza a few times and Eve also adds one when she arrives. Kyouko tries to push a kiss in Train's direction again, and he stuffs another cat in her face.
She then offers Eve and Train all an ice-pop...and when Sven arrived, there was none left for him...
When Gyanza hears Train say Sven's name, he revives all of a sudden and attacks them again by using the surrounding buildings and the sewers as shields. Train and Sven are hit multiple times.
Sven decides to use his eye and Train says the he knows to shoot Gyanza in the right knee "because I'm the Black Cat after all...he has an injury there", which apparently, Sven gave Gyanza when he was captured.
Train uses a burst bullet to defeat him. Charden walks in and introduces himself as a member of the Apostle of the Stars, and he explains that it is a revolutionary group led by Creed.
As they speak, the ominous sound of a helicopter comes into the air above them.

Bousou apparently means "running wildly"...not sure if that means "running wildly from" or "running wildly around"...
Comments:
If I'm a purist, which I often am, they've forgotten one important thing about the rivalry between Train and Eve. The motivation for Eve was because she wanted to help the man that saved her (Sven), because she didn't want to be a burden. That was why she risked her own life to be a bait in Rubeck City. Sven let her because he acknowledged her wish to become stronger and that she has the ultimate responsibility over her own actions and safety. He didn't want to just protect her, because when bad goes to worst, the only one who can protect her is herself. She chose to stay with him in danger, and so no matter how much he dislikes it and worries over her, he gives her the chance to grow.
In this episode, Eve offers to be bait, but Sven refuses. So far her relationship with Sven doesn't go the same way as it did in the manga, where both of them are extremely attached and protective of each other. Here we don't see Eve being eager to help...or maybe there's just not enough focus.
The other thing this episode left out is the mayor of Rubeck City. Even though he only appeared briefly in the manga and had a very small role, I've always thought his existence was important to Train's character. It shows firstly that Train has moved on from his angry distrust and that he could come to appreciate others from his past. It also shows, secondly, that Train's past wasn't full of bloodshed and coldness, that there were some kindness, however scarce that may have been. It shows that there are kindness in Chronos, there are people who understand the emotional price of killing and feel guilt at sending off assassins in the name of "greater good". The only other person in Chronos we see this thoughtfulness from is Sephiria. The others either don't think about this or don't want to think about this.
And onto Kyouko. They've made her exceedingly bubble-headed and cute, which, like Saya, misses the mark. While most of Kyouko's actions really are the typical cute schoolgirl-type gestures, she had this extremely dangerous aura around her. Like the fire she controls, she was constantly in danger of exploding in irritation. She enjoyed destruction and killing, not because she liked the bloodshed, but because she was warped enough to think it was festive. They've even changed her character design...>_>; In the manga she was a little sloppy - overlong non-uniform jacket, her shirt half-opened and an extremely short skirt. This added to the dangerous, unpredictable feel of her character. In the manga I feel we never got all of Kyouko's story, but I'm inclined to think that something traumatic had happened to her before she joined the Apostles. Her teacher mentioned that she used to be an A-grade student. He also said that when he tried calling her parents, no one picked up.
There are lots to nitpick about, but if we completely disregard the existence of the manga, this might just be the best anime I've downloaded in a long time. Even though the girls are starting to get on my nerves now. The scene construction still amazes me.
The other thing to commend is...Train doesn't sound like Shinn much this episode! Good work!
Addendum
There's a lot of drama on the Animesuki (link database for bittorrent anime files) boards about the rumoured licensing of Black Cat (and indeed, potentially Bleach, Tsubasa Chronicle and others) by FUNimation.
It's all a bit confusing, but Animesuki and certain fansub groups have received a "cease and desist" email from the company claiming that they have licensed, amongst the mentioned - Black Cat and Tsubasa - and demanded that the torrent/torrent links be removed from the sites. The email was also apparently sent to the DNS host of the sites.
This was not preceded, accompanied, and indeed, as of yet, succeeded by a formal and official announcement from the company on the license.
As a precaution, Animesuki has removed all relevant anime torrents from its pages.
Anyhow, as one DVD would cost about US$28 and each DVD contains only 4 episodes, plus importation, conversion, tax and whatever else shops here add onto the original price...
*Sigh*
There are both people who commend the quality of the company and (more overwhelmingly) people who criticise the company's output quality and PR management.
Maybe I'll finish watching the series by the raws.....x___x
Thanks
